Re: Krav maga or Jiu-Jistu: which should I take?

Sigh. I train BJJ and love it. I do CrossFit and love it. I wish I had the time and energy to do Krav too. There's always so much more to learn! Good luck.

Re: MA Training: Peaks and Valleys?

If you are in BJJ for the long haul, you're bound to have peaks and valleys. I joke that BJJ is like a relationship: sometimes you love it to death and sometimes you never want to see its face again....

Re: BJJ Library for sale

IMO, books are also helpful if you are a self-starter. In other words, if you can take initiative and work on figuring out the nuances of techniques yourself, you can cover a lot of ground. I, as a...

Re: Advice needed: Female body-type/shape concerns (Kinda long)

+1. I'm working on this myself. So many women have an adversarial relationship with their bodies, and it's a shame, especially because what we can do is pretty amazing!

Good luck with your friend!

Re: Completed my first workout today

When I first started CrossFit, I was reminded of the quote I have in my signature. Every day, you walk in the door, and a new form of torture awaits.

18 months later, I am still amazed by 1) the...

Re: CF and Pregnacy

Congratulations, Jennifer! One of my fellow students continued CrossFitting at our affiliate until about a week before she gave birth. As everyone indicated, she modified many movements, but she sure...

Re: Newbie to Self Training and CF

Ha! yeah, people do lots of intense things in the name of CrossFit, but no need to make yourself homeless!

Re: A bit nervous..

Another cool thing about XFit is that it really does focus on movements we do every day. Sit down in a chair--you're on your way to squatting. Put groceries from the floor onto a table--rudiments of...

Re: Newbie Overtrained - How to set limits?

I came back today after a couple weeks off due to illness, and I can't second enough the comment about checking your ego at the door. Once you have figured out how you want to scale, just focus on...

Re: How did you discover the affiliate gym you train at?

Word of mouth. A teammate of mine (I train Brazilian jiu jitsu/submission grappling) did the research on the affiliates in the area and decided on Petranek Fitness. I also knew Becca from a grappling...

Re: Most Ridiculous Hotel WOD

Yeah, in my case, when I went crazy, I didn't have far to go. :D

Christin, now THAT's what I call personal training!

Re: Most Ridiculous Hotel WOD

GREAT stories! I've had some of those, but there was also the time I was in a globo gym doing dumbbell snatches (I had wanted to do swings but thought I might get kicked out for erratic and dangerous...

Re: Your last meal ever!

Nick, I lived in MI for 5 years. Loved the pasties! (And learned the hard way that you don't pronounce them the way you pronounce what strippers wear. :o)

I'd be tempted to have a seven-course...

Re: Got my first "what the heck?" look today

Great stories, everyone! My friends and family have NO idea what to make of my CrossFit addiction. All they know is that it makes me happy and that I am always willing to carry the heavy grocery...

Re: BJJ Library for sale

I'll be there! Should I 'fess up to the skills I need to work on or pray that you don't populate a workout with them?

Re: Wrist locks, arm bars and tendinitis

I agree with Becca. I have gotten to the point with my (male) teammates where many of them seek me out to roll with because they can work on different aspects of their game (e.g., finesse,...

Re: to much sleep? what is wrong with me

I'm a perfect example of this. I am just getting over a really nasty illness that I'm convinced stems from my body finally giving out after too much activity and too little rest. I was able to...

Re: Stopped getting my period?

Add me to the list. I stopped menstruating, I believe, because I added CrossFit and Zone eating to an already pretty intense physical regimen (Brazilian jiu jitsu/submission grappling), and needed to...

Re: Coming back after illness

Thanks, Caitlin. I really appreciate your comments. I will do as you suggest and just focus on getting back into a routine. Like you said, PRs can wait! I hope you are feeling 100% yourself. :)

Coming back after illness

Hi everyone,

I've been really sick the past couple weeks and am planning to get back into CrossFitting next week after almost a month off. I wondered if anyone had any thoughts about returning....

Re: BJJ Library for sale

Matt, I can completely understand why you'd throw over BJJ for CF. But the solution is just to quit your job and other commitments so you have time for both. :)

Re: Where to buy Gis and Kimonos

Ouano gis are good too; lightweight and durable. Of course, I'm biased b/c John Ouano is one of my teachers, so you can take my recommendation with a grain of salt. ;) But they really are good gis!

Re: Martial Arts on top of crossfit?

Boy, I could have used this thread last week! I have been training BJJ for many years and added CF about 18 months ago to supplement it. (I'm now equally addicted to CF;)).

I struggle constantly...
