Re: Programming ? - same muscles hit in strength and WOD?

I also like having a metcon with the strength movement in it to help get more practice. Say you work up to a heavy deadlift and then do a workout with a lot of Kettlbell swinging. You're able to...

Re: 3-2-1-Row 2K-Go!

If your traps are getting tired early it probably means that you're muscling the stroke with too much upper body. Really focus on the leg drive, you should be getting a good 75% of your power from...

Re: Trouble Sleeping?

I know that if I work out pretty late at night I'm wired and have trouble sleeping well. But, it sounds like you are having trouble staying asleep. Here are a couple general recommendations for...

Re: 3-2-1-Row 2K-Go!

Ran yourself out of gas? Unless I'm reading the image wrong you finished with a 1:37 last 500m. You had plenty left in the tank! It looks like in the middle you let the stroke rating go down a bit,...

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Is this the scoring system that they've used for all of the games? It works, but it doesn't really reward winning by a lot, or losing by a lot. For example, in the row Jason won the 2k by 13 seconds....

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Any website that has the times for the different events, or is there just the leaderboard?

Re: Good Substitute for someone who does not have a rowing machine?

I'd definitely recommend running or other cardio. SDHP don't have the same kind of impact.

Re: Helping a friend with pull-ups

Thanks for the input! I'll cut out the inverted rows if you guys don't think they're going to be that useful. As for the mental part, I think that she's just a little daunted by the idea of a...

Helping a friend with pull-ups

So a friend of mine yesterday mentioned that she had tried to do a pull up, and failed horribly. I said that she could probably improve quickly, but she maintained that it was impossible. One thing...

Re: Replacing the big 3

He said that I shouldn't squat or deadlift above bodyweight, so they're just not that useful anymore. He said for pressing don't do anything that I can't do easily for 12 or so reps. Dips and bench...

Replacing the big 3

Ok, so I've been diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis, meaning there's a slight fracture in my lowest vertebrae. I'm seeing a chiropractor for treatment and things are going well. However, one of the...

Re: competitive rowing times?

I've at times followed the pete plan, it's a very solid program. w/f/s http://thepeteplan.wordpress.com/the-pete-plan/

the main idea is that you do one hard set of endurance intervals, and one...

Re: Increasing deadlift while doing mainpage WODs? Supplemental programming..

You could think about adapting the CFSB program, but instead of having a bunch of different exercises you could just focus on deadlifts. Might shorten some of the metcons, but you could still follow...

Re: Weight to substitute for Handstand Push-up

Looks like my problem with HeSPU doesn't stem from the strength portion, as I can Press 85% of my BW. Looks like I need to work on my technique. Maybe learn how to do an actual handstand.

Re: 500 Meter Rowing Time?

Andy's right. A lot of coaches like their rowers to erg the way they row, so mimic the blade entering and exiting the water. If you solely indoor row however there's no real reason to do this.

Re: 500 Meter Rowing Time?

Rowing is a little harder to figure out than running, because the relationship between distances is not as linear, but here's a useful site:

Re: Squat questions

Yeah, first time. Hard, but not quite as hard as I thought it'd be. Could've added a little more poundage I guess.

Re: Squat questions

I would think about getting a second opinion, but my chiropractor specializes in sports rehabilitation. He was also one of the trainers for USA track and field at the 1996 Olympics, so if he says to...

Re: Squat questions

I hope not to be throwing out heavy back squats and deadlifts, but for the moment it's looking like I'll have to at least be taking a break. My chiropractor recommended no sets below 8 on those...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

The drag settings dont really make a handicap, just changes the level of resistance. Kind of like gears on a bike. Some people like a low rating with high resistance, while others like little...

Re: Fair Handicapping of a Rowing Contest?

It seems to me that this calculation would make it even. Ergometers simulate on the water rowing, the cocnept 2 calculation aims to balance the fact that heavy rowers can pull harder, but create more...
