Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Well, it was an entertaining Games season. The spectacle has definitely been polished and dialed in. Presentation and commentary has improved.

It's a shame to see the decline of the discussion...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I agree with everything you've said, David. I like the comparison of Murph 2015, Regionals event 2, and the change in box jump standards. That gives insight into how CrossFit HQ approaches...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Theories on event 2 injuries that have been suggested:

- overtraining / volume fatigue / inadequate recovery
- insufficient warm-up
- deficiency of benchpress training / forward strength of pec...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

On right vs. left - I looked back at the barbellspin list of injured athletes (up to 34 now, including one female). Eight of the reported injuries specify right side injury, five specify left side...

Dave Castro talks about event 2 injuries:

His talking points:
- These injuries are unfortunate.
- Programming is not the cause....

I think this is important. It's a shame for so many of these incredible athletes to end their season this...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Kudos to you, Diana! I think it would be a blast to judge at a competition, but I know you put in long days. Well done!

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Dan Bailey has withdrawn due to injury. He withdrew after event 2, though he hasn't said if the injury happened during the event or before or after. I rewatched the event, and he had a very normal...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Clearly he trains well on a day-to-day basis. I wonder why he'd have this negative reaction at competitions.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Lucas Parker withdrew from the East Regionals after event 2. He doesn't give the diagnosis, but sounds like it could be rhabdo. Here is his statement from his Instagram:

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Katrin Davidsdottir would have won if not for the 10th place finish in event 5. I'm not sure what happened there, but she got way behind on the first set of 21 muscle-ups and never caught up. Was...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

The heavy dumbbell snatches have got to be a factor as well, that is, the combination of ring dips and dumbbell snatches. Most of these guys are favoring upper body a lot for the snatches - very...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Ring dips suffer from a range of judging expectations. I guarantee some athletes will be frustrated with their judge on event 2.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Interesting thing I noticed about athletes on the bubble....

I follow Nick Fory's progress, as I used to work out at his gym. In the Central East region, he did not qualify for Regionals. He...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Clearly he is a strong dude with a fit build. He's not a lazy, fat couch sitter. It's a shame he didn't use his abilities within the rules of competition.

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I wondered if it would be possible to edit a video to cheat rounds like that. He doesn't follow the rules that a running clock and a second person need to be in the frame, both things that make...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Alex,
I agree with you. I think a zero rep score should bump you behind the last person who completed all workouts.

For the individual athletes in 75,000th place it may make a difference. For the...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I just want to say that Dave Castro's Instagram hints are VERY oblique.

He posted a photo of The Hunchback of Notre Dame novel and a gargoyle from the Notre Dame cathedral as a hint for 17.1.

For...

Re: 2017 CrossFit Open, Regionals and Games Thread

A dumbbell distance toss is so fun, but I can't see it happening in Open competition. :yikes:
