Re: 3 PRs in 3 weeks (critique please)

Con: About midway through the rep, the weight pulls you forward, which leads you to straighten your legs prematurely.

Pro: From the angle you posted, your back looks pretty good.

Re: Pull Up Critique- Shoulder Issue and Technique

Sarah, it's awesome that you're committed to doing full range of motion, strict pullups. It's important that you actually train full range of motion as much as possible. You mentioned bands and an...

Re: New Deadlift PR at 525

Sean, not to stray too far from the point here, but could you recommend some good weightlifting belts for a novice/intermediate? I'm just starting to get to weights where a belt might help.

Isolating Shoulder Stretch w/o Involving Elbows

Hello all,

Whenever I squat, it takes about 3-4 sets to get my left shoulder stretched out enough for a decent grip. Usually I work my way inwards on each warmup set until my grip is close enough...

Re: Pull up bar thickness

I highly recommend bicycle handlebar tape (the cork kind). It feels great, it's not too cushy, and no more calluses!

Re: How wide is the smooth middle part of the Rogue Bar?

Really? That's wonderful news.

My current (crappy) bar is 20 inches wide in that section. Thus, when doing deadlifts, my hands are less than half in the knurling.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Rotator Cuff Exercises?

Does anyone here incorporate isolated rotator cuff exercises into their regimen as a preventive measure against shoulder injury?

I'm gearing up for warmer weather and beach volleyball, and thought...

Re: bumper plates/mats/garage floor

Andrew, that's no problem - that's what they're made for. Dropping your bumper plates from shoulder height is totally okay.

Re: How to Avoid Bruised Shins on the Deadlift

All, thanks for the constructive bits. I think I'll get a pair of soccer socks.

As for the rest of you, perhaps I should have titled the thread "How to Mitigate Bruised Shins on the Deadlift".

How to Avoid Bruised Shins on the Deadlift

What's your approach? Knee-high socks? Pants? Mental toughness? I'd be glad to hear some good ideas.

Re: Deadlifts: drop or put down?

Exactly, Geoff, and that's why I started this thread. The handful of stories of deadlift injuries I've heard go like this:

"I lifted the weight with no problems, but on the way down, pop!"

Thus,...

Re: Deadlifts: drop or put down?

All, thanks so much for your feedback! In the end, what persuaded me most NOT to drop was Doug's comment about putting heavy things down in real life. It's true, my wife doesn't like it when I pick...

Deadlifts: drop or put down?

It seems like I hear a lot of stories about injuries with deadlift when putting the weight down, rather than on the way up.

Thus, is it wrong to just drop the weight after lifting, or is it...

Re: Question about Hi-Temp 10# Bumpers

The reason I asked about these is because I'm not yet strong enough to deadlift with steel 45's, so I have to stack the barbell's ends on little platforms to achieve the right height.

I know I want...

Question about Hi-Temp 10# Bumpers

I've heard that the 10# bumpers are too weak to be dropped without warping. Does anyone know if they are strong enough to handle light dropping (say, from 1 foot off the ground) or if they can even...

Re: Deadlift check

It looks like your upper back is rounding. Puff out your chest and keep it that way throughout the repetition.

Re: Deadlift check

Robert, don't forget to mark your links with (WFS) "work and family safe", or everyone will ignore you. Just a little technicality.
