What is the Crossfit consensus on dead hang shoulder position?

From what I have pieced together from the Journal literature and MWOD stuff is that an active joint works against the load, and that an active joint usually entails external rotation.

OK so upon further research this is already a thing. Its called a suspended pull up bar. You can buy just the bar without the straps from Rogue for 50 bucks.
