The beams should be no wider than 44" apart as an outside dimension. I think most squat racks have an outside measurement of 42".

I don't have an answer for you for the bracket.

I always tell people to spend money on the bar, you will never regret it.

Plates are plates. Weights are weights. Metal plates don't make much of a difference unless they are really, really poorly...
