Re: Correct amount of forward knee travel during squats?

It's entirely dependant upon your body's geometry. I have long femurs in relation to everything else, so I have a relatively large amount of forward knee travel. Instead of focusing on your knees,...

Re: Training For Competition...bench help?

Linear progression might help, depending on your training history, but I'm a big advocate of conjugate periodization (Westside style) heavily supplemented with repetition effort accessory work. As...

Re: Tommy Kono IV

I got my singlet for around $30 from House of Pain, but that price seems to be fairly standard. No one can really justfy charging more for something so hideous...

Re: Good mornings vs Straight Leg Deadlift

Records in... the squat & deadlift. Not so much on the DL.

That said, Konstantinovs (3rd overall DL @ 947 & highest raw DL @ 931) seems to train by Westside-style programming (though his exercise...

Re: What percentage of 1RM for 3x5 and 5x5?

You could've read that in any of multiple sources, all of which are likely informed by Prilepin's chart/table, which based on a large data set, prescribes recommended loading as a percentage of one's...

Re: Zone vs. AD

Just a thought - would it be possible to address ph concerns through supplementation? I could've sworn I'd read somewhere about folks on AD type diets supplementing with baking soda for this...

Re: Vegetarians and muscle size/definition

Veronica, are you aware that both Chip & Allyson @ Bodytribe are vegetarians (Allyson is near vegan, IIRC)? You might want to check with Allyson, as I recall her attempting to gain weight a while...

Re: the comparative merits of olympic and power lifting

Agreed. However, for most athletes, I would sub in the overhead press for the bench press at least half the time (the merits the overhead being fairly obvious 'round these parts and the merits of...

Re: ??Veggies help??

Two innocuous ways to get in more veggies:
1. Frozen, chopped spinach in a shake (I do spinach w/flax, nut butter or coconut milk, cocoa, stevia, water, & powdered egg whites every AM)
2. Frozen,...

Re: Scapular retraction in pulling movements

All respect to Rippetoe, but nothing screwed my deadlift up more than reading his writing concerning that lift. For me, scapular retraction & thoracic arching is a must - without it, I am not...

Re: Controlled descent or freefall on the squat?

Keep in mind that Louie Simmons is almost always talking about geared lifting. When he talks about a fast descent on the squat he's talking to and about lifters who are wearing squat suits so tight...

Re: Collegiate Strongest Man Competition

To prepare for the yoke squat, just set a bar loaded to the prescribed weight (550 lbs) - or what you can handle if you can't get 550 yet - on pins at the prescribed height (nipple height) in a power...

Re: Pet Peeveve: pictures of bloodied hands/calluses

I'd add bloody shin pics to my list of pet peeves. I hate shin scrapes from deadlifts, and it's especially gross to pull in competition after someone has bled on the bar (as happened to me in Feb),...

Re: Tire flipping technique?

In my experience, the deadlift technique can kill your biceps, especially if you're using a tire of a challenging weight. That said, I've seen a few folks - all highly capable olympic lifters - who...

Re: Dave Tate and the power of good nutrition.

I'd just like to add that I totally respect Tate - he's one of my favorite strength writers. I just would like to know how the alleged anabolics do play into his transformation...

Re: Dave Tate and the power of good nutrition.

Well, no doubt he does. But I still feel like the anabolics do play into it, and it's irresponsible for Berardi et al to not discuss that part of the equation.
