Re: How does ones weight affect rowing?

Yes, the C2 site has light weight and heavy weight divisions, and the light weight division is slower.

Re: joining a box

I admire those who can work out at home and push themselves hard. I do much better going to a box, and the programming, coaching, and motivation.

Re: Tingly hand syndrome?

In general, do people think it is better to start with a chiro vs. a family practice doctor for "tingly hand syndrome?"

Re: Another Masters age group

I agree, Helen. It's just a matter of time. As the number of competitors in that age category increases, it will become much more feasible.

Re: If I was Dave Castro . . .

Hmmm.... everyone's life is different. Pretty much a desk jockey, but I can now throw a heavy bag of dog food over my shoulder to lug it out the store, help move heavy furniture or equipment, along...

Re: Tingly hand syndrome?

You might also want to try wearing wrist braces at night, at least for awhile, to see if that alleviates the symptoms.

Re: Opinions on Hiring New Coaches.

We have an internship program, where the head coach works very closely with interested members, for months, if needed.

Re: Owning Multiple Boxes / Locations

The one box-one owner rule wasn't always in place, and those affiliate owners who had multiple sites were grandfathered in.

Re: Starting a Box with a full time job?

You should definitely give it more time. Are you at an affiliate now? If so, are you able to assist there? That will give you a better idea of whether actually owning a box is something you even want...

Re: Thinking of joining

Re: clothes - any workout clothes are fine. Most CFers aren't too worried about fashion.

Re: shoes - personally, I like minimalist shoes for CF. Traditional running shoes tend to have too cushiony...

Re: Importance of Coaching

You do note that your box hasn't even tried walking through muscle ups... to me that sounds like a lack in teaching skills. Really, I think it's pretty difficult for an average person to learn how to...

Re: What does a "good box" mean to you?

Yeah, I tried working out at home, but just got bored and never pushed myself. For me, it's been well worth joining a box. I've been at it 4 years with no end in sight.

Re: Movements/min lifting before joining a gym

The way I look at the posted WODs is that they are written to challenge the top athletes. The rest of us mere mortals scale from there.

As others have said, just go, and you will get better and...

Re: Female, 36 yr. old. 133 lbs. need some help.

One thing to consider is that weightlifting will build not only strong muscles, but strong bones, things you will appreciate having in the future.

Re: Level 1 Test

I thought the test was worded rather confusingly also, so maybe that is what tripped you up. You do definitely need to know the *best* answer, rather than just a correct one.

Good luck on your...

Re: Is 6ft 1 too tall?

Some things might be harder -- just means you're getting fitter than the shorter guys.

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

I was really happy to see the standards on the box jumps/steps. If I remember correctly, wasn't last year's standard strict box jumps, at least for jumping up?

I hope competitors think through...

Re: I'm being tempted by the dark side!

Different boxes will have different approaches... ours does some pretty sophisticated strength training, so it can be done.

Maybe talk to your coaches about what you feel is missing?

Re: How long is your average WOD?

We usually mix up short, medium and long WODs, but our members seem to feel quite cheated if they don't have 30 + minute WODs most days.

Re: Doubting myself

My advice is to check out a few local affiliates, and join the one that feels the best.

The community and coaches will help support and motivate you. Being a bigger guy, I actually see that you...

Re: Starting Foundations soon, with knees on my mind...

You may want to see an orthopedic doctor. I've had similar symptoms, was told by regular doctors it was just a sign of age. I did do a lot of chiro and rehab, but finally got pushed over the edge and...

Re: when is the weight going to stop going up!

Free yourself from the tyranny of the scale. If you're happy with your health, performance and appearance, you're on the right track.

You seem to building muscle mass, and you might also be...
