Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

I agree, but I'm feeling more comfortable lifting heavier. Weeks one and two were surprisingly taxing.

Re: Running

Be careful with the Vibrams. Not saying not to use them, just start slow. I know a lot of decent runners who bought into the hype and have some serious problems from going too far too fast. I think...

Re: The Weightlifting Project

Squat: 143 pounds x 5 x 3

Press: 65 pounds: 5, 5, 8

Re-set press, will go for max reps on last set. Trying something different to bust through that 75 pound barrier.

Have to do pull-ups...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Sara~I've been doing this program for a few weeks and really like it. Wish I had asked about presses and weight increases because I'm stalling way too fast at 75#. I will reset and move up 2 pounds...

Re: Modifying WOD's: Time versus Weight

If your goal is to be a good Crossfitter, I would follow Brendan's advice to the letter. If you have a different goal (more strength, better endurance) then modify to achieve THAT goal. I would...

Re: The Weightlifting Project

Been awhile but not for lack of training. I must get into the habit of posting my workouts. Seems like overkill since I write it all down. But I figure I'll never get any feedback if I keep my...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Thanks Joe and Eric, I will heed your advice. I'm also going to bite the bullet and purchase the GSLP book.

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Hi everyone, I have a re-set question. I seem to have started out too heavy on my press. Yesterday I was only able to go 75 lbs for 5, 4, 4. I plan to try again next week but am pretty sure I'm...

Re: Need help w/ Crossfit and fatloss advice

Grass fed ground beef is versatile, and you may be able to find it in large quantities from a farmer. I buy 1/2 cow of grass fed ground beef every year. It lasts about 10 months. Our family of...

Re: Maybe I'm out of shape?

I don't think it is negativity, just pointing out that the mainsite WODs seem haphazard at times. What is wrong with a discussion? I'm totally down with the whole if you don't like it or can't do...

Re: ?x/wk, CF-L1, and more!

How do you want to look naked? Big and strong? Thin and ropey? Like a wrestler? It's probably frustrating to read this over and over on the CF forums, but it really does depend on what your goals...

Re: ?x/wk, CF-L1, and more!

Spend that $1,000 on some good strength equipment and read all you can. For that amount of money you can set yourself up with enough good equipment to last a lifetime.

Re: Maybe I'm out of shape?

Crossfitters in the top percentile of gym goers to begin with? How do we even begin to quantify that? I was a crossfitter for 2 years and would not characterize myself as a top gym goer, whatever...

So the mainsite's programming can't be questioned?

Re: back to back legs?

I thought crossfit pulled from the hopper. It's different because there is no plan.
Preparation for the unknown and unknowable. ANYWAY, back to back leg days probably won't kill you, but if you see...

Re: Need help w/ Crossfit and fatloss advice

I just follow the template in the article by Justin. If you go to the thread in the Fitness section on these boards there are several links to the article. I just downloaded it and keep it on my...

Re: Need help w/ Crossfit and fatloss advice

I did Insanity two years ago and HATED it. Actually quit with one week to go. It is mind-numbing and you will lose whatever minimal strength gains you are getting at your Crossfit box. 70s Big, CF...

Re: The Weightlifting Project

Tweaked things a bit. Since I'm training without a coach I decided to focus on the squat, press, bench press and deadlift. Will be using the 70s Big program. I will treat olympic lifting as skill...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Does anyone incorporate oly lifting with this program? I have started focusing more on the olympic lifts but train without a coach and while I really enjoy the lifts, I am questioning how confident...

Re: CF without a trainer

Wendler 5-3-1 also has a lot of flexibility with regard to conditioning. Just sub a metcon for hill sprints/prowler pushes/sled pulls. Or just do the sprints/pushes/pulls and get great results.

Re: New to Crossfit

Is this your goal? Look bigger still and excel at Crossfit? You will not get there by just doing Crossfit mainsite. Get big and strong with one of the programs mentioned above. There is enough...

Re: The Weightlifting Project

Last night:

C&J to 95#, then 3 singles at 81#

Snatch to 72# then 3 singles at 81#

3 sets pull-ups 7,6,5

Improvement in all lifts/exercises over last week. Felt like I was over-thinking things a...

Re: Strict Pull ups for strength programs.

If you look at your numbers week 8 is better than week one. You have gained weight so you are getting stronger which is the point of the program. Other programs might help you get your pull-up...

Re: Strict Pull ups for strength programs.

I haven't done the 70s Big but have generally found that sticking to a program is the best way to go. Not quite sure what the fractional pull-ups are. You should know when you hit your last full...
