Re: Raceday Nutrition

OP said he was strict paleo, so I assume he wouldn't want added sugar?

Re: Vegan Paleo

I actually have, but then again I really love brussel sprouts. It's not uncommon for me to eat an entire steamfresh bag of them at once. I see your point though.

Re: Vegan Paleo

Sorry, I meant per calorie. 200 calories of walnuts has about 4 or 5 grams of protein, 200 calories of brussel sprouts has about 15.

Re: Vegan Paleo

Veggies often have more. Especially leafy greens and brussel sprouts.

http://veganfitness.net/ (WFS) begs to differ. Though it probably would be hard to lift heavy things if you were limited...

Re: Vegan Paleo

You could maybe learn from the guy who started this thread over at veganfitness. He's a raw vegan who eats mostly fruit and seems to do fine. Then again he is an endurance athlete, so his...

Re: Dynamic Duo: Crossfit + Raw Vegan Diet

It may destroy some of the nutrients, but if you don't cook them at all your body can't absorb any of the nutrients anyway. I've heard that if you want to get the most nutritional value from your...

Re: Chips?

These are pretty healthy (though they are still made with potatoes). Still light years better than Lays or Fritos or something.

Re: recipe ideas for calcium

You should cook really thick, leafy greens like the ones you listed. It's easier for your body to absorb the nutrients that way, plus loads easier to eat them. I don't know anyone who could manage a...

Re: craving sweets/sugar

After not eating sweets for awhile you do stop craving them to some extent, but not completely, in my experience anyway. But the few times I have had something really sweet when I was craving it...

Re: dash diet

It does seem like it includes too many servings of grains, and I wouldn't see the harm in having nuts/seeds every day instead of only 4-5 servings per week, but other than that it seems fine.

Re: Making some changes in 2010, what to tackle first

As far as overall health goes, not necessarily fitness, I'd say:

Food quality/sugar (kind of the same thing)
Food quantity
Diet Pop
Macronutrient balance (assuming it's already decent, I'd put...

Re: Complete protien: truth, or fiction?

There are people out there who get their protein solely from nuts & seeds and veggies. I don't know how they manage this, but they do. So yes you could (especially if you included beans) but you'd...

Re: 29 Year Old Vegan

Despite what most people on this site seem to think, a vegetarian or vegan diet is not a death sentence and many people get quite strong on one. Eat lots of lentils, beans, leafy greens, nuts and...

Re: calcium intake, milk unfavored?

I avoid dairy because it's healthier to get calcium from other sources, because the thought of dairy kind of grosses me out, and because a lot of dairy comes from cows that put are in horrible...

Re: HELP!!! cant stay away from SUGAR/CARBS

If I'm eating a lot of fat and protein from stuff like nuts and seeds, avocados, oils, and eggs then I don't really crave anything, including sugar. Eating more fat really helps control appetite.

Re: how about this diet plan??

I don't taste coconut oil when I use it to scramble eggs.

I do taste it when I stir fry veggies like summer squash and zucchini in it though. So I guess it depends on what you're cooking.

Re: paleo "change your life in 30 days"

I should have elaborated. I oppose fast food because of the environmental impact, the horrible conditions of the animals, etc. I'm not a hardcore paleo advocate or anything, I also think people...

Re: paleo "change your life in 30 days"

There's still no way she actually NEEDS fast food. Sure she may crave the hell out of it, but she's probably still better off not eating it. I personally don't think being pregnant justifies eating...

Re: vegetarian paleo?

A lot of people also go vegetarian or vegan for environmental reasons, it's not just a health or moral thing. Eating tons of meat isn't exactly environmentally friendly or sustainable.

Re: If you could eat only one...?

It's worth it, especially considering it is your ONLY carb source. I would also choose sweet potatoes.

Re: I'm a believer. (Zone/Paleo)

I decided it would be okay to eat one of those packs of Valentines candy hearts once. It was after a workout, so I thought the insulin spike wouldn't be that big of a deal. I felt horribly weak and...
