Re: more snatch/C&J

William,

I prefer the Rippetoe starting position (for you, this would mean higher hips).... this could eliminate some of the variability of the bar path that was affecting your catch in the...

Re: Please help me with my snatch

My point exactly. That's not where he started the lift, though. The first thing he does is to pull the bar back and shoot his hips up until his shoulders are lined up to receive the weight of the...

Re: Please help me with my snatch

Rayne,

Your starting position needs to be fixed... that is #1. Go buy a copy of Starting Strength. In it you will find most of what you need. You have a good sense of the rest of the movement,...

Re: snatch, any help appreciated

Hips are waaaayyyyy too low at the start. This would explain why your low back rounds off at the start... you are fighting basic anatomy to get the bar past your knees. I suspect that this...

Re: Do people actually get denied for Affiliation?

Greg,

A "CrossFit Coach" is someone who has earned the level of certification titled: "CrossFit Coach." Again, this is a certification which you must EARN... much like Level 1 or Level 2.

Re: Do people actually get denied for Affiliation?

Tim,

Sorry, but there is actually no difference between the two examples you gave. Perhaps you are hearing a particular emphasis as you say it in your head or allowed, but as written it doesn't...

Re: Do people actually get denied for Affiliation?

I've been watching a trend in the CrossFit community for the past 2 years: The more affiliates that come on board, the more watered-down the CrossFit principles become, in the application.

This...

Re: Why aren't there more back squats on the main page WOD's?

We've experimented with Back Squats in metcons....

They are actually my favorite lift in a metcon, but they have to be applied with care.

The biggest problem that we've had with them is that...

Re: Are squats a practical strength movement?

Warren,

As far as I know, there is no effective substitute for the Back Squat. You don't need to start putting up numbers like a power lifter, but all of your conditioning will suffer or stagnate...

Re: Are squats a practical strength movement?

Warren,

Starting Strength lays out a solid case for the practical, strength carry-over of the back squat... especially the low-bar version as described therein. In my experience, there is no...

Re: Crossfit during sports season

Dan,

We train a lot of soccer teams in my gym, and here are my thoughts;

1. With the plan you have laid out, it is likely that you will loose weight, unless you eat like crazy. In my...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Okay, this is my last post on the topic, and I'll hold myself to that.

1st, I don't think it's necessary to become so hostile.

I don't dispute that KB swings will "improve your limit strength."...

Look, Britt... seriously, I'm not trying to be insulting here.

If you told me you had a 1.5XBW and posted the above results, I might believe you. However, you showed us evidence that you have in...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Britt,

1. 250 pounds is a LOT FREAKING HEAVIER than even a 60KG KettleBell....

2. Unless you only weight 100 pounds, a 200-pound deadlift is a starting weight, not a mature deadlift. 3x BW...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Leslie,

While interesting and similar, inasmuch as it deals with a big deadlift, this is still off the mark.

Ross only shows that without training it, he has a big-a$$ deadlift.

Britt, very...

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

BTW - Britt, re-read my posts... my experience is not in BJJ and Soccer. I'm a BJJ white-belt, and I have never in my life played soccer.

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Right, Britt.

And, what I am telling you is that I don't buy it. I have never seen anyone at your level of deadlift not train the deadlift for two months, but instead work with weights...

Re: Thruster Help

Wes,

Is it possible that you are finishing the lift with the barbell in front of your head? What I mean by this is that if I were watching it from the side, I would see your head behind your arms....

Re: New To CrossFit

Scott,

Unless you are injured or incapacitated with soreness, just follow the WODs as scheduled on the main site. This pretty much answers both of your questions.

Good luck,

Re: Kettlebells are a bit overdone

Coach Glassman laid out pretty plainly in the "Garage Gym" article that kettlebells are an ancillary choice when outfitting a gym.

Personally, I think that it's pretty obvious that CrossFit...
