Re: Tough Mudder

I just ran a Spartan Super in NB MT-120s. They worked great and held up very well.

Re: Tri-State Super Spartan

Stephen (my 16YO) and I are running it Saturday at 1200. I don't have a goal, per se, other than to complete the race w/out talking to Pukie. Running is not my strong point but Stephen and I have hit...

Re: Hardest WOD You've Ever Done

The burpee spin-cycle: 1) you're X% through Kalsu; 2) you reach a point where 5 burpees chews up 40 seconds or so; 3) you rest for what feels like 5 seconds, while completing zero thrusters; 4) your...

Re: Hardest WOD You've Ever Done

Another vote for Kalsu. Did this today scaled all the way down to 60# and it was the worst 14:30 I can remember. I once tried it at 95# and could not get past 35 thusters before I was in the burpee...

JJ as Rx'd: Times?

Did this today in 35:30. Parallettes at 8", head to the floor on each HSPU, only 1 failed squat clean. Time didn't seem great but in fact, I was just happy to get through it alive.

Can someone...

Functional Fitness: Snow Rolling

The best part of the video is my wife's commentary. If you're married to a non-CrossFitter, you'll understand.

Re: A short, middle-aged, jewish man walks up to the Marines' recruiting table...

I think you misunderstand: it's not a program, the pull-up bar and ammo can were just there as a way for the Marines to generate interest in their table (and maybe sign up "a few good men".) Anyone...

Re: A short, middle-aged, jewish man walks up to the Marines' recruiting table...

I was just looking at their website and among the scrolling pics on the home page was a Marine doing the ammo can press and another doing a Farmer's Carry w/2 ammo cans. Functional :D

Neither: I did it just for fun. I'm not a Marine, though I happen to be employed by the Navy (i.e., I'm a Navy CIV).

The Barraks Row Festival that I referred to in the OP is a street festival...

Re: A short, middle-aged, jewish man walks up to the Marines' recruiting table...

Thanks! Seems like there's more than a few of us out there. Maybe I should start a "Short, middle-aged, jewish guys please sign in" thread and then lobby to have a special category at the Games.

Re: 45# Muscle-Up

You're right, the range of motion is less than 100% b/c of space constraints. But I do the MUs from an L position, which adds a bit of difficulty and really the challenge is in the transition, not...

Re: 8# Regulation Size Hooverball?

Thanks - looking at their website, it may do the trick. The 6# Dynamax is not exactly soft but if you compare it to a typical 10" conditioning med ball, it's like a pillow. The Rage looks about the...

8# Regulation Size Hooverball?

I've been playing a Hooverball a couple of times a month w/a group of guys that I CrossFit with. We use the standard 6# Dynamax and play 3 per side. The games are fast and fun but I think the ball...

Re: Not enough hamstring engagement in functional movements?

Thanks for the input. Between the 5/3/1 and the WODs, my programming is not lacking in deads but here's where our absense of a true trainer comes in. I can telll him to focus on technique but since...

Re: Not enough hamstring engagement in functional movements?

Prior to every CFWNY WOD, we do powerlifting following Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 system. And of course numerous WODs include some aspect of powerlifting. Given that, it sounds like w/in our limitations,...

Not enough hamstring engagement in functional movements?

A bit of background: I program the WODs for a bunch of guys, which we loosley refer to as Crossfit Washington Navy Yard. I'm not a L1 trainer and I've made that clear to the group. But, having been...
