It's like a car and fuel, different fuel sources will have different combustion characteristics etc. but ultimately the amount of fuel in the tank is determined by what you put in and what you use.

I haven't seen the Armstrong program before but I have started pullups again, a max set every second day. It was a good call you made about balancing push and pull as a couple of people had commented...

Averaging low fifties, 59 still stands as my PB (and I have been taking it easy over the Holidays). I had achieved 59 a few years ago before so it wasn't technically a PB, just a PB for my new goal....

59 out of no where. I like to think I know how the body works but it does stuff that makes no sense to me all the time. Still happy with the new PB though. :highfive:

A bare basics strength program I'd write would consist of three exercises, one each for the three compound movements, push, pull, and lift, with a 3 sets of 6, 4, 2 reps structure and 3 minutes rest...

A new PB of 55. I'm going back to a max set every day, last time I piked out of it I was getting hammered at work so I'm expecting it to be a little more tolerable...

Last PB of 52 still stands. Closest I've gotten to it since is 49, but work has eased up so no excuses now! I'm aiming for 60 by Nov 21.

My last PB was 52 and it still stands, I had a pretty draining work week in the last week which pretty much shattered my routine so my pushup game has suffered, but I'm back on it as of yesterday....

Have transitioned over to one set of max pushups every day (7 days), and going to take a rest day on a Sunday (or longer if necessary) if I start feeling fatigue. At 43 now.
