Form Check - Back Squat

I took an extended period of time away from CF due to an injury and some other things going on, so just want to make sure my form is dialed in before getting back into it. I have super long legs...

Re: "The Skye's the Limit" WOD

The linked article says "Unfortunately her families insurance will not pay for the medically needed device." Can you elaborate why her families insurance will not pay for a hyperbaric chamber? Is...

Re: Stop Anthos from Taking over CrossFit

Could have fooled me

"But another way is getting Dunkin' to take out a $1.25 billion bank loan to hand its investors $500 million in tribute payments."

There's a lot of misinformation in this...

Osan AB, Korea

Anyone currently doing crossfit in Osan? I'll be moving there in mid July for 12 months. I have some equipment, just looking for some people to work out with

Re: Heard in the Office Today

I don't think I'd go that far. It's one thing to believe that our optimal diet comes from what our prehistoric ancestors evolved to eat, but another to assume that the habits of our ancestors were...

Re: 2010 games scoring - impossible to catch up?

Scoring by standard deviation isn't the answer either. Take a look at the 1RM push jerk. One guy got a zero creating a huge outlier that made everyone else's margins smaller than an event with a more...

And do you still feel confident this will work for non-normally distributed data?

Re: 2010 games scoring - impossible to catch up?

This just creates a new problem. Imagine you have 1 competitor who scored 12th, 12th, 12th, and 12th in 4 events before a cut and you had another competitor who scored 1st, 1st, 1st, and 45th (last)...

Re: 2010 games scoring - impossible to catch up?

Look at all the events contained within a cut. If you had to choose between the following for your entire weekend to choose the fittest person which would you choose, and I think that will tell you...

Re: 2010 games scoring - impossible to catch up?

I disagree in principle. The events should only have the same weight if the events are equal indicators of overall fitness. Unfortunately not all events are created equal. Taking the 09 games as an...

Re: Thoughts on 2010 Individual Events?

The check at the end was nothing more than a commercial for Progenex. $25k for the winner this year makes more of a splash than Progenex offering $15k to 1st place, $7k to 2nd, $3k to 3rd for a total...

Re: 2010 Games Average Competitor

This is meaningless unless you can tell us what an "elite" CFer's stats should look like. So far all you've referenced is the elite numbers of specialists, but as far as I know no one's ever tried to...

Re: New Level 1 License Agreement

Yes, but not legally until the courts rule that Google has become genericized, which they haven't yet. Although Google's a word in the dictionary so they're probably skirting that line. Time for a PR...

Re: New Level 1 License Agreement

Thanks Sam. I agree, in terms of what you get out of a class, it's 100% about instruction and encouragement, but let me add 1 other part that I think you cannot ignore.

Brand-Name. When people shop...

Re: New Level 1 License Agreement

Sam,

I'm curious as to why a gym like that would feel compelled to describe their classes using the trademark crossfit.com. Why not "and every evening at 6 pm we do functional fitness classes led by...

Re: New Level 1 License Agreement

The L1 is the credentials and the affiliation is the marketing tool. You have 2 options

1) affiliate and market yourself as CrossFit X and list your credentials as a L1 Trainer or
2) don't...

Re: Single Modality Events in CF Competition

I disagree Shane. A test like your example of absolute strenth and absolute endurance can be indicative of their overall fitness inbetween, But it is just an assumption. We don't use assumptions, we...

Re: Single Modality Events in CF Competition

Not that the events of the games should be created for the spectator's benefit, but if a bunch of single modalities stripped from other sports served as the basis for the formatting of the games, I...
