Thanks for the tips - the pain does not extend down the leg bit is localized at the low back/pelvic area so I suppose it's not the sciatic nerve.

The SI joint could be the answer at first sight as...

Hi Robert,

Yes, box squats did help my free squats by teaching me to:

1)push my knees out
2)sit back
3)push from my heels and not tilt to the toes
3)keep tight lower back
4)activate my glutes

Here are 3 of my sets today at 110kg. I did not push my butt too far back and it seems that my shins are about vertical. Looks like that the "plop" is also less than before.

Nik,thanks for the tip,I've added RDLs,good mornings,back raises(no GHD in the gym)and have been rotating between them twice a week for more than a month now.
Hopefully they'll help with the "plop"...

Unfortunately I'm limited by the width of the squat rack so I cannot go any wider.
