Re: Not using legs enough for olifts

If you are pulling with the arms too early, an effective fix can be doing your cleans and snatches as part of a complex where you do 1-2 pulls with no arm bend first.

It is relatively east to extend...

Re: Getting depth on the squat clean

That would be my recommendation, just what you did. Front squat every power clean, attempting to stop the weight then go ahead and squat down without first standing up with it from the 1/4 squat you...

Re: Learning the Olympic Lifts

I would recommend doing both each workout, but doing snatch first. When you are just starting to learn, start with snatch, as soon as you get to a full snatch, (1st or 2nd workout I assume) go ahead...

Re: Power clean start

I'd go with the lower position, but you will still need to sweep the bar back a little more, and keep your balance more to the rear of the foot longer into the pull.

Re: snatch critique

Very nice improvement. You are still going to your toes a bit as the bar comes up the thigh though. Notice how the hips are coming forward quite a bit as teh bar comes up your thigh? There should...

Re: High Block Snatches and Cleans

Not much I can say, besides, get shoes, stop lifting off those pins, stop looking up at the bar, and squat all the way down.

Once you do that it will be easier to make useful comments on your form.

Re: 116 snatch attempt

Wow. you have talent, and you could be a really good lifter.

Slow the video down, and look where your weight is just as the bar gets to your hip. Your weight is on the balls of your feet. It...

Re: snatch critique

That's great! After you have done that a few times, and are fairly comfortable bringing the bar all the way to your hips being mostly on your heels, try some light snatches like that, and see what...

Re: snatch critique

Sorry bout that!

I think that one is better, although you still got forward on your feet before the second pull.

If you have a choice about listening to Travis and continuing to follow his cues or...

Re: snatch critique

You start with your hips too high, and you are not "sweeping" the bar back to you at all. And between those two things you get way forward and out of position by the end of the lift.

What I think...

Re: 310# Snatch

I believe that Chad is retired.

I have two 77kg lifters that have snatched 138kg (James Tatum and Chris Gute) and I believe Mike Cerbus has done somewhere between 135 and 140. Those are the only 4...

Re: Snatch critique

Not a bad lift at all, for youtube taught I am quite impressed. Hips a bit lower at the start, but other than that just keep on keeping on!

I know he is a 77, I handled him at nationals. Super talented and super nice guy. I just meant what was he weighing right now. Some lifters tend to train slightly overweight, and I was just...

Re: Snatch critique

Congrats on the PR!

What would make the lift better is to get everything directed a bit more rearward, so that the bar is "deeper" into the hip and your weight is more on your heels as the bar...
