Re: Crossfit/Keto diet.

There's a good post from Mat Lalonde on his experiences of mainpage CF with a low carb diet over on Robb Wolf's blog (WFS): http://*************/?p=782 - he found that after a 2-3 week adaptation...

Re: Dot com versus local

Dale, to quote one of Glassman's recent tirades, that's "poor reading". Want to try again, and look for me using the words 'clearly', or 'obviously', or 'self-evidently' anywhere?

Guess what -...

Re: Dot com versus local

That's an interesting post Ewen, because it sounds like you're saying that the best approach for affiliates is to distance themselves from HQ - or at least, to not encourage their clients to look...

Re: Dot com versus local

I think many of the "old guard" moved on (or were forced to moved on) for reasons other than burnout answering obvious questions. I also think that many of the newer folk with the potential to be...

Re: calcium intake, milk unfavored?

Funnily enough, Robb Wolf's latest podcast touched on this point - well worth a listen. Head over to http://************* (WFS apart from very occasional language) or subscribe on iTunes (search for...

Re: Paleo vs. Zone

Most of the arguments against Paleo tend to ignore a few fairly important points in the Paleo diet. There's more to it than just "eat paleo food choices". Right at the start of the book is a list...

Re: What is the Zone?

Will - not really a Geordie, I'm a Northumbrian - I just put Newcastle because I thought no-one would've heard of the village I'm from :).

Re: What is the Zone?

Will, you do know that when people talk about these ratios they're talking about calories, not weight, don't you? And that fat contains approx. 9 calories per gram whereas protein and carbs contain...

Re: No way around low blood sugar with low carb diet?

Insulatard and Levemir are different products; they're similar in the sense that they're intermediate insulins, but they have different action profiles and durations.

You wouldn't ever use either...

200m hill sprints are a bit different to mountain ascents though...

Tony, my advice would be to get some hill work in this winter. If you're in Carlisle, getting down to the lakes might be the...

Re: No way around low blood sugar with low carb diet?

Hi Casey,

I actaully don't use lantus, I use Insulatard which is a shorter-acting long-acting insulin (if you see what I mean) - it only lasts 14-16 hours. So I've always had to take 2 doses per...

Re: No way around low blood sugar with low carb diet?

Good stuff Casey; keeping good control over the long term is vital as you obviously know. Who knows, the move to low-carb paleo might help you improve your A1C's even further; I know mine dropped...

Re: No way around low blood sugar with low carb diet?

Casey,

Your body can definitely handle the low-carb paleo approach; it just takes time to work out the details, like everything else with diabetes. Don't despair, just take it one step at a time....

Re: Explanation on some non-paleo foods needed

Sweet potato and apple sauce is a commonly cited paleo option for post-WOD fuel; other root veg would be great options as well.

I'd just give it a try and see how you go. I used to eat a lot of...

Re: Dave Tate and Total Fran Work Output

If you include the body-weight element to Greg's Fran workout, it looks more like 45,000 ft-lbs. This was discussed at length in the Performance Menu a few years ago, but even to break it down very...

Re: Bike Commuting?

I agree. Cycle easy, take your time up the hills and don't push it, and the commute will be more like a long walk than a run in terms of effort (i.e. it shouldn't be a real "cardio" workout). I...

Good vid Leon and good job, I thought you were going to throw him out the ring at about 4 seconds! He just looked like he wanted a hug instead of a fight.

Hope you manage to get a vid of the muay...

Re: Advice on cheap paleo eating in the UK?

I prefer to spend more money on good meat and look for bargains in other areas. One thing that might work is to "save" money on other food items and use the surplus to buy more veg (sounds weird I...

Re: what do you use in your diet as a variable factor?

Almond butter is another easy option (far easier to eat than 3oz of whole almonds), coconut milk is another (about 250ml of typical full-fat coconut milk is your 500 cals). Depending on your...

Re: Metcon loss from pure strength programs?

If you're contemplating moving to SS (a novice program) from CFSB (an intermediate program), it suggests that you weren't actually ready for CFSB in the first place.

Not wanting to sound funny...

Re: paleo "change your life in 30 days"

Randy,

I started eating paleo a few months ago for a specific health reason (controlling diabetes), but I wasn't looking to lose any weight as I was already fairly lean at 6' 3" and 183lbs.

Re: Carb Cycles VS Paleo

Good luck with the trial period!

However, I've got to say that eating 4-5k on paleo foods isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, and it's certainly not "damn near impossible" - I've...

Re: Carb Cycles VS Paleo

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why not cycle calories in the same way but choose paleo-friendly foods? This ties in pretty closely with the IF and CLC approaches many people take, and if...

Re: Different types of Strength Programming

The fact that there's so much debate about which is better tells you a lot - mainly, it tells you that either method works as long as you actually get stuck in and do it. And that's what Gant's...
