Post Gym Manager/Head Coach Position Available in Las Vegas, NV

My wife and I are looking to hire a full-time Gym Manager/Head Coach for our affiliate, CrossFit Max Effort in Las Vegas.

This is a salaried position, which includes profit-sharing as well as full...

Re: Painstorm - February '10

This is just a prediction, but I think we'll see the best times posted with 10 reps of power snatch @ 100#.

All 5 rounds averaging 1:50-2:10.

Just my guess...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

I didn't mean to hijack the original poster's thread. But to answer your question Christian: I was. I got out of the Navy last March.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw my experience down for you...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

BUD/S went just dandy for me...

CrossFit was just starting to filter into the Teams when I was going through. They introduced some WODs in Second Phase - I still remember puking after my first...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

Contrary to popular belief, 100% CrossFit.com would NOT be the best way to get these numbers.

Example: Prepping for BUD/S, all I used was the "BUD/S Warning Order" and really dialed in my eating...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

If I knew you were training for BUD/S I would have suggested differently, actually. BUD/S is not a strength game and most bulky guys who get there, eventually drop out.

Yeah, you need to be able to...

Re: SealFit??

I don't program for SealFit, but here's my take:

Guys who prep for BUD/S or who are Operators need to be durable, which I would define as having the capacity to perform high-volume exercise without...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

Scott, it was the best analogy I could come up with. A raw beginner? Correct, but he isn't a "raw" beginner...he has some muscular conditioning from sports. I would consider a "raw beginner"...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

Think of a muscle as a water pipe, where water passing through equals strength. The larger the pipe (bigger the muscle), the more water can potentially pass through (more strength).

Olympic lifts...

Re: A Not so Crossfit Strength Program

Like people posted before, SS can be done while making linear gains in strength. Once that stops happening, you are going to need to switch out the template for something a little more advanced to...

Re: Best Affiliate Programming (WOD's and Websites)

I think it was said before, but to determine which affiliates have the best programming, you need to find out what they are programming for.

SealFit would not be good for a football player (hell,...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

Right...I'll never be afraid of a globo-gym opening CF type classes because I know CrossFit Las Vegas will always be better than that. Am I worried about an affiliate with inexperienced trainers...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

Isn't that what we want? A globo-gym with CF Certified trainers walking around and everyone in the gym doing functional movements at a rate of $20-30 per month? HELL YES.

As an affiliate owner,...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

I'm not sure the difference between scoring a workout or doing a workout for time? Both are score based.. in the timed workout, your score IS your time.

Or are we talking about something...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

Yes, Shane. I had meant to convey that JUST because someone has a 14:00 min 5k, doesn't mean they've obtained fitness. If they were to demonstrate that run time along with all the other physical...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

Yup. That is assuming that they ALWAYS train that way, though. Maybe they are only like that during the Games and other serious competition. The more often you deviate from safe mechanics, the...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

I will agree with J. Thomas in most cases. Safety and consistency in mechanics should be a priority - but there will always be two groups in CrossFit, because of the competitive nature of the WODs...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

So a runner is trying to get faster times in a 5k. Is he trying to become more fit? Not necessarily. Strength and coordination and agility are all aspects of fitness...but are not needed for a...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

My apologies. This is what I meant...I was too abbreviated with my explanation.

Fitness = work capacity across broad time, modal, and age domains.

If LeBron doesn't have flexibility or balance to...

Re: Huge Decline in Quality

Lots of generalized usage of the word "fit" and "fitness" here....

Fitness = works capacity. Hands down. Period. Any way you look at it.

If a runner is concerned with running faster than he is...

Re: new affiliates bad for crossfit?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

Personally, I would definitely try and dissuade some with only a few months of CrossFit experience from opening an affiliate - and for multiple reasons.

1) At only a few...

Re: Mind Body Online Yes or No

We use MBO and it has been one of the best decisions we've made so far. It saves us a TON of time handling membership tracking/payments.

You can give each person a barcode and have them swipe a...
