Re: Trail Running Shoes

A note on Inov8 shoes, they do tend to wear out rather quickly. Check out their website, if the shoe is listed as one of their "performance" line shoes, then it is not made for extended training. I...

Re: Anyone try the Muscledriver sandbag trainer?

I've had the MD bag since February. While the outer shell is holding up alright outside of a few loose threads that like to get caught in the zipper, the filler bags are the problem. I'm very...

Re: Opinions sought about lag thread eye bolt disclaimers for human weight bearing

I used to have those same eye screws holding up my rings and my heavy bag in my garage. I noticed that the different directions that the rings would pull for exercises like ring pushups and body...

Re: Dede

I don't know Dede, but my prayers go out to her family. A sudden death is sometimes harder to deal with than a prolonged illness. I hope her family and friends can all find peace. I feel for her...

Need help from any Latin-philes (language not the culture)

I never took Latin in high school or college, so I need help with some English to Latin translation. Online translators are no help if you don't know the ins and outs of grammar. I don't want to...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

Elizabeth, I saw on the warrior dash FAQ that you are allowed to run barefoot or in whatever footwear you choose, as long as your outfit doesn't injure other competitors. As far as whether or not,...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

I'm so excited that so many people have gotten on board with this race. I'm formulating a training plan now. I may not win, since I'm sticking with my group, but at least I'll be in good enough...

Re: Soldier needs help

OP: You could also try emailing someone at Blackfive.net, a very popular milblog. Those guys have a really wide audience and have been known to get things moving in support of our troops. I wish...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

Hi Walker, I'll be doing the race with my husband and some friends. I don't expect to be very competitive this time around since the consensus is that we're all going to stay together. We have some...

Re: Video Tour of Freund Gym

And here I was all proud of my single car garage with my new Wright colored bumper set, two KBs, rings, plyoboxes, homemade sandbags and rusted craigslist bar and plates :p You've put my tiny gym to...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

OK, I'll make this last point and then I'm out of this discussion:
The reason a test at the end of a Level I cert would be nice is because they are calling it a "certification". How can you certify...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

Passing a test does not make you a "coach", it simply certifies that you have the knowledge base to perform in the role of a coach. Just because a person attended a Level I seminar doesn't mean that...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

That's disappointing to hear that there was no exam. I agree that not everyone who's been to a Level I is ready to be a coach. That's why if they added an optional testing day, those that are...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

I don't think I'm adventurous enough to try the Death Race. I'm having a hard enough time convincing my husband that the 3.5 mile Warrior Dash will be fun. I told my mom about Warrior Dash today,...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

That's pretty much how the ACSM certs are structured only with practical exams, and it seems to work well. There is a certain assumption that each student arrives with a base of knowledge that has...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

Thanks for the tips guys, good things to know. It looks like I'll probably be sticking with my group for the run, and they're not a competitive bunch, so most likely no steel Warrior helmet award...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

My guess is that the bigger problem would be finding HQ trainers that could regularly take a whole week off at a time from their other jobs. There isn't exactly a giant pool of HQ trainers to work...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

Joshua, that was good of you to skip the race on the morning of your wedding. I probably would have told my husband the same thing. Did your friends that ran it offer any tips as far shoes, what to...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

A week long cert would be great for the students, but from a logistics standpoint that could be really difficult. Can an affiliate afford to have their gym closed for a whole week? Can the HQ staff...

Re: Crossfit Level 1 Cert

I hope this rumor is true. It would make me feel a lot better about the piece of paper that I get at the end of my cert. I have been certified as an ACSM Health Fitness Specialist. It took me two...

Re: Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

James, thanks for the tips. Luckily, the race is in May, so it should be pretty warm here. I'm thinking of some type of river runner shoe for the race since it looks like I'll be spending a lot of...

Anyone try the Warrior Dash?

I came across this website last night for an obstacle course race called "The Warrior Dash" (link wfs) http://www.warriordash.com It looks like so much fun: a 3.5 mile course that involves mud...

Re: HELP!!! I'm addicted to Crossfit shirts from around the world!!!

I'm sorry to hear that Mike. Did you ever get any women's shirts done? I've occassionally checked the afilliateshirts site to see if they were available, but to no avail.

Re: Child care in your box

As a mother, I would be wary about leaving my daughter in an unsupervised "childcare" area, especially if you're going to have kids of different ages all together. Older kids are often fascinated by...
