Re: Starting Strength

CrossFit Football's amateur routines sort of blend what your are suggesting. But to accommodate metcons they cut back on the strength work. But there template follows a 3x5 fashion.

Re: Is there something as to much endurance work?

Although they train different areas, any physical stress and really any stress in general will take away from your overall recovery.

So if you are doing 3 endurance workouts a day 7 days a week,...

Re: Back to linear progression with Back Squat ?

It's not a horrible idea.

My other thought of being truer to 5/3/1 would be to do 5/3/1 HBBS followed by first set last to get in some extra volume.

Re: What do you think of Functional Patterns...?

I think the video offers 2 valid criticisms, outside of that a lot of empty information.

Crits being:
1.) Lack of rotational movements
2.) Lack of ofset or unbalanced movements

I'm also a little...

Re: Good lifting numbers

I'm with Drew on this. You need some numbers to give you a barometer to progress. Yes in the end compete against yourself, but without outside comparisons you are setting yourself up for...

Re: Why No Powerlifting at the Games?

I think this is a good idea once you figure out how to make the set up fair so someone short like me would still have to actually squat and not just do a partial.

Re: Would this be a good idea for WOD

Is this done once a week? 3 times a week? Daily?

Warmup sounds fairly reasonable.

Technique work--I wouldn't be doing kipping toes to bar. There is no point to them unless you are competing, and...

Re: Why No Powerlifting at the Games?

I would probably say boredom, judging and safety.

Would you want just one judge giving the squat an OK? What about spots for safety?

Whereas with the Oly lifts, the judging may be soft, but at the...

Re: 200 KG Back Squat

I wish I could do that on a whim. Great depth and way to grind it out in the end.

Re: 5/3/1 and Front Squats

Generally yes since CrossFit uses lots of Olympic lifting variations. But in the long run it doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't use both.

LBBS will get you comfortable with heavier loads. ...

Re: 5/3/1 and Front Squats

First there is no reason why you can't learn how to HBBS.

But, if you love the LBBS, just do front squats after your 5/3/1 deadlift. Do them in the Boring But Big model for a while. Then you can...

Re: high frequency Powerlifting/upping volume

If you want to keep it basic, Wendler offers a free "Frequency" program on his website.

It's pretty basic but gets you squatting and benching almost every other day with submax deadlift work.

I...

Re: Strength Work for a faster/smaller guy who doesn't want to slow down?

Wendler is great. Just follow it as prescribed. As you go longer and longer on it the reps will naturally come down. Wendler is all about "slow and steady wins the race."

Looking at your...

Re: just made a rev. hyper...

Post a picture.

Sometimes driving with the heels can get the hammies more.

How far forward do you let it swing in front of you? This is where I feel I get the most stretching/opening of the joints.

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

I caught the end really just the credits of the Grid show on some NBC sports channel I didn't even knew I had.

It's playing again tonight.

Re: Tommy H on Broken Skull Challenget

Why not take 15 minutes to do the metcon then hit the circle? The other guy may cool off while you did an easy warm up. I think I could wrestle better right after a 15 minute Fran then a five minute...

Re: Tommy H on Broken Skull Challenge

It's fun to watch. I also like watching it with my girls, it shows them women kicking butt.

I only have one complaint, on the 3rd event, before you meet your opponent before the sumo pit, what is...

Re: Knee crunching with straight feet in squat

When you used to squat how much did you point them out? If you're talking 10-20 degrees, I don't think it is a big deal and should be fine. Most squatters have some degree of toes out. Just don't...

Re: Alan Thrall's "How To" Videos.

This is good stuff.

Overall to the point but also smart enough to know not everyone has the same body so that certain cues are appropriate for different body types and motion types.

Re: Running Farmers Carry?

I would imagine.

If you really have a run element to a farmer's carry you might change the intention of the lift. If you load it heavy enough to test your trunk, traps and grip, its going to be...

Re: Squatting

Honestly the goblet and plate squat looked pretty good. Make sure you keep your feet rooted.

For the OHS, make sure you keep pushing your knees out so your body can descend between your hips.

Re: Any tips for squatting and keeping back straighter/more vertical.

That's part of my point, since it is a back squat, you will have some forward lean that is the nature of a back squat.

In regards to posterior pelvic tilt, for many, if you really keep your torso...

Re: Any tips for squatting and keeping back straighter/more vertical.

One question for the anti-butt back crowd.

How do you engage a squat with hip flexion and not get some forward lean or compensate with posterior pelvic tilt?

Re: Any tips for squatting and keeping back straighter/more vertical.

You can tell your weight is going on your toes. Ideally you want to drive through the whole foot, but for now focus on driving through your heels.

Also, I think you would benefit from pushing your...
