Not painful at all.

Take your PVC and hold in a snatch grip or a bit wider. Without removing your hands from the bar, take it from your front side (belly) to your back side via the over the head...

May I ask what exercises you are performing such that you are microloading dumbells?

It seems, as noted, to be an expensive option to add a pound or two to a DB.

Try ladders:

Rep sets of 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2

move to 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1

then work your way up to 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1

etc... they help you "wrap your head" around the task at...

My humble suggestion.

Tie other stuff to the tire and take it all for a drag as well. That way you aren't locked in to a higher total weight...unless that is what you wan.t
