Re: SS Equivalent for O-Lifting

I've read a fair number of books (Greg's has the best teaching progressions and correct level of technique detail, IMHO) but so far nothing has "clicked" with me as far as making sense of...

Re: Advice on Barbells

I have that York bar and I got it for $109 a couple years back. Allison Foreman may be able to give you a deal for it (though not necessarily, Bill/Rogue had a better price for a York Elite).

It...

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

Agreed. I've loaned it to at least 10 people and it is a wake-up call for virtually all of them.

One has decided to tackle GCBC, but the movie gives enough motivation to try something other than...

Re: Wendler's 5/3/1

I'm entering my second cycle deload week. The squat and dead work is going very well. Sometimes for extra work I use front squats since the quads are the supplemental part for squat work (and abs,...

Wendler's 5/3/1

Hello folks,

About a month ago, I bought Wendler's 5/3/1 e-book. I knew I needed a plan to get my strength up since winging it wasn't really working. His book and CFSB came out about the same...

Re: Bars. Pendlay HD or Texas Power bar

Well, some HD bars do have it. I have three with it as I picked them up at Wright Rubber while getting bumpers. He orders them that way since most of his customers want it (high school programs I...

Re: Bars. Pendlay HD or Texas Power bar

Yeah, is it just for slow lifts? If so, the TPB is apparently the standard.

If you are doing quick lifts, I think the knurling on the TPB will eat you up (and I have no idea if it can handle...

Re: York Bumpers & Bar

Can I get some clarification...

I thought a Texas Power Bar was a named product from Troy Barbell?? Similarly, I would have thought whip would be irrelevant since the TPB is oriented for...

Re: Some people have to move to think.

I'm glad y'all liked it. My wife teaches education in college and found this somehow. She teaches a lot of math methods courses and she witnesses many, many teachers squashing the natural...

Re: Taxes

I got my license first thing after deciding on a location (since they need the address). Then I got insurance (need the address and the signed lease). It was fun figuring out the order... :D

Re: Nutrition Confusion

I recommend reading Good Calories, Bad Calories and drawing your own conclusiosn. And if a dense 450pg book isn't to your liking, the book recommended by Frank has similar information and actual...

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

I finished the movie yesterday. I thought it was quite good as he had to balance being entertaining and giving enough information for people to "get it." This is a tough balance but I think he did...

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

Wow, the CSPI dude just said that salt is the single most dangerous ingredient in the food supply and that if we reduce it, we could save 100,000 lives per year. :yikes:

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

FWIW, his entire food log is on the site. It's fairly zonish (junk zonish admittedly).

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

Oh, I've read GCBC and just posted a week or two ago about it. It is fantastic. But I don't think many people will read it given its density.

But, a simple and funny documentary...people will...

Re: Has anyone seen or heard of the movie "Fat Head"?

The video clips were entertaining and may help since I fear so few people will actually read GCBC. I ordered it, should be here 2/23.

Re: CFSB - Ask your questions here!

Thanks Darrell, that it works is a very good reason. :D

So, do the high-rep BS sets proceed like 20-rep breathing squats (i.e. 3-5 breaths between each rep) or as fast as reasonably possible?

Re: CFSB - Ask your questions here!

The CFSB discussion seems to be going on in about four places, so if this has been asked, I apologize.

Can you tell me why high-rep back squats were chosen over front squats?

I would have...

Hey Jeff,

Excellent article. I've read it twice and I'm still trying to absorb it.

One example I've used for people who either say "why isn't running enough" and/or "doing deadlifts (or whatever) is dangerous" is to say that if you are a runner and you blow out your back helping...

Re: Just finished Good Calories, Bad Calories

I highly recommend both. But the book just contains so much information that it is mind-boggling.
