Re: Please critique my squat and deadlift - both personal bests

Something that helps me keep my chest up squatting is to make sure that my thoracic is extended and locked in solid BEFORE I take the bar out of the rack. Helps a lot.

Re: The 405 Squat

What would you say about all the O-lifters who squat high bar with more of a forward knee position?

Re: Deadlift form - is this safe?

He's straightening his legs first and then finishing it with his back. Don't do that.

Re: A revised powerclean form check + some deadlift advice?

agreed it all looks better. Make sure you move like it's on purpose. At the top of the deadlift things get kinda flopsy. Lowering the powerclean the weight is in control, not you.

Every part should...

Re: Snatch Check

On the half speed shots, you can see that you're shooting your hips up first, then shooting them forward horizontally (this is what's bumping the bar out in front). You want to keep your chest up and...

Re: Seen at the globo yesterday

Big difference between working hard and sweating, and not doing anything about reeking up the place without nasty BO.

Re: 200-lbs Snatch

For me I just need to make a conscious effort to get under the bar and turn it over aggressively. I tend to put all my focus into the pull and then shut down and just hope I can sneak under it......

Re: 200-lbs Snatch

Nice work, there's plenty more in there. Be more aggressive pulling yourself under the bar. You're doing what I do and just kind of sneaking under it. More aggression! Gotta be another 10lbs PR in...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

I like my velcro belt for o-lifting, it's not as stiff or cumbersome, and has a little give, which is nice when trying to get set-up, and is lower profile for keep the bar close.

For back squats...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

When you order a belt get a single prong. I didn't listen to all the advice and got a double prong because I thought it looked cooler, or something... It's kind of annoying trying to get both prongs...

Re: Defranco on Crossfit for Athletes

Alex, at what point is it no longer CrossFit tho? If you start to program with a plan in mind, periodizing it, shifting the focus to speed and power... sounds like a regular GPP/S&C program.

You...

Re: Power Clean Technique

Using the hook grip helps me keep my arms loose and fast around the bar. Without it I am squeezing and tensing my arms.

Re: Is this a muscle up?

Plus it's common practice for O-lifters to not lock out every single training rep.

Re: Help with dropping under bar during clean/snatch

I'd say practice at ~85% of max. Heavy enough that you'll actually need to pull under it, but not a max so you have can focus on specific things and not just be worried about making it. I'm not...

Re: Help with dropping under bar during clean/snatch

Don't think of it like dropping/falling under the bar. It's not passive. You should be pulling yourself down under it and into position.

More aggression, more mobility work (if getting into the...

Re: Kipping chinup?

If you need a band for strict pull-ups, and have had a major shoulder injury in the past, then now is not the time to worry about kipping. Work on developing the strength and mobility necessary to do...

Re: Why was the Open Source Thread Closed?

I just feel like HQ has lost the plot with their programming. I can go way back on the main site and see the same types of things I did when I started programming. Weird WODs that didn't really work...

Re: My 6 year old son's first weighted pullups.

Whenever he's in the garage with me and I'm lifting he has to have his "bar" (broomstick) and follow along with squats, and presses, and cleans and stuff. heh It's pretty cool. He still stuggles to...

Re: My 6 year old son's first weighted pullups.

Nice! I was pretty pumped when my 2 year old son deadlifted the 8kg KB. He now has that for reps and can do the 12kg KB. heh. He's about 30lbs, so that's nearly BW. :)

Depends on the math that's in the spread sheet. I had some I couldn't open on my BB but I can with my droid phone.

Re: Why was the Open Source Thread Closed?

Michael, the main site is supposed to be TOO MUCH for the top athletes, period. Clearly that's not the case if the top CrossFit athletes are doing more than that in order to be the best.

I used to...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1

Yes swapping running for rowing makes it a WOD, but if you replaced running for rowing in "Helen" is it still "Helen"? How about replacing pullups for ring dips in "Fran"?
