Re: Looking for SoCal (OC) Box Recommendations

CrossFit Costa Mesa. I don't know about their programming, but I know Max Mormont is a great coach and knows the strength side very well.

Re: Fixing my Snatch

One drill that may help with the pausing is doing two or three position snatches and cleans without letting go of the bar between reps. Catalyst should have demo videos.

Re: CrossFit Undisclosed, Al Udeid AB, Qatar, reaching out to the CrossFit Community

Erin,

I designed a bar with military and people with limited equipment in mind. Click on my facebook link (WFS) in my signature. Let me know if you would like the specs on making one or more...

Re: Snatch

The bar is going around the knees on the first pull. You want to have the bar sweeping into your body, not moving away. Also, slow down the start a little so you can have more acceleration through...

Re: PR Snatch Check

The only reason you don't make this lift is because as you come out of the hole, your hips go back and up causing your torso and the bar to tilt forward. Bring the hips forward while standing up....

Re: KB Snatch Critique

Throw the kettlebell back more in the bottom of the swing to load the posterior chain more and shorten the distance it travels.
The KB snatch is based off the kb swing. It won't go as far out in...

Kettlebell & Dumbell Bar (KDEE Bar)

New design on a bar that I came up with. You can use ketllebells dumbbells and just about everything else you can think of (ammo cans, buckets, chains, etc) besides regular plates. Designed it with...

Re: Crossfit for Volleyball

You can get heavy with the Oly lifts, deadlifts and squats. Depending on what time of year, you don't need to do too many plyos, just quality (less than 40 contacts per workout). They do plenty of...

Re: Snatch & Clean and Jerk PR's

Shane,

John and Keith covered most of it. The other thing I noticed on your snatch is your stance. Your feet start out about shoulder width than jump in on the catch. Try to reverse that or at least...

Re: Snatch critique

You are already on your toes before you hit full extension of the knee and hip. As you hit full extension of the knee and hip, your shoulders should be behind your hips and then that helps to get you...

Re: Snatch critique

Mike,

more finish with the shoulders behind the hips at the end of the second pull which should help with the speed under the bar. Your torso position isn't bad, just keep your back tight.

Re: Snatch fail 3 videos :(

Two things on the snatches:

You need to bring the bar back to you and be more patient. The bar is about mid thigh and you have your weight shifted forefoot or you are already on your toes. This...

Re: 265 Clean from High Blocks

At that bar height, your chest should still be over the bar more with the shins back. Drag the bar up a couple more inches before starting the second pull. Nice lift.

Re: Critique my Squat

Even from this angle it looks like you are shifting your weight more to the left side, due to the bar and the hip shift in the bottom. Next time take a view from behind to see how big of a shift it...

Re: Is personal liability insurance enough?

I no longer have insurance through the NSCA. When I did, the coverage only applied to training at somebody else's place or park/bootcamp setting (basically as an independent contractor). If you are...

Re: I cant seem to catch my o-lifts low enough. Recent PR's

Michael,

in agreement with the above two posts. In Olympic weightlifting, there is no depth requirement. It simply states that you must get the bar from ground to overhead in one uninterrupted...

Re: Calling All Rowers!

Not a rower, but used it with rowers I trained. CF helped, especially when the lake was frozen over and girls wanted to get off the ergs. Broke up the monotony. Let them compete in something other...

Re: 310# Snatch

Hell yeah!
Nice recovery in the hole. Good to see some of your lifts again.
The only thing I can see needing any work (nit picking) are the knees going valgus on the squat up. Haven't seen your...

Re: 325 Clean, BW 172

Jay,

part of the reason for jumping back is your torso leaning forward in the front squat. You jump back to put yourself in your preferred squat position. Work on keeping the chest and elbows up. As...

Re: Relatively new to the oly lifts

Jason,

Eric covered the main issues that need to be worked out. If you are a 6'5" guy, your shins will probably be forward of vertical at the start. The more you drop your hips, the more the shins...

Re: Squat cleans, snatches, etc

If you are having problems catching low, work more on your overhead squat and front squat. If you aren't comfortable setting up and overhead (front) squatting, you won't be able to do it dynamically,...

Re: Any Improvement?

Anthony,
you need to get full extension of the knee and hip (with the shoulders behind the hips). You don't hang out at the top once there. If you don't fully extend the hips and knees, the best...
