Re: DOes anyone train 2x a day

I tried doing two workouts a day for 5 weeks last year. I did a lifting session in the morning and a metcon in the evening on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Here's what I found out:

1. In...

Re: Reading while Working Out

Benefit - reading while running is Multi-tasking, which looks great on a resume

Downfall - no one has ever looked cool on an elliptical

On a serious note, this is a good question. Do we get the...

Re: Cross Country and CrossFit

This is very true. If you're getting burned out with anything extra, just focus on your coach's routine. With 40 miles a week I can't see how you'd have much energy for anything else.

On the...

Re: Cross Country and CrossFit

This sounds similar to my old high school CC schedule (which led to overuse injury fyi). Running 20+ miles a week is outdated and frankly irresponsible. But anyway, back to your dilemma.

I'd...

Re: Filthy Fifty

Tuck jumps are the recommended substitute, and that's good enough for me. They are for beginners who can't yet do a double-under and would rather do a WOD than spend a lot of their time on skill...

Re: Skill Work, Warming Up & WOD

Dennis,

2min. of jumprope, 2-3 rounds of the CF warmup with jumping pullups, then hit the WOD shortly thereafter and you should be good to go.

Re: Filthy Fifty

Nice job Dean.. way to stick it out through such a tough workout.

For next time, try subbing the Double Unders with Tuck Jumps. They're closer to the physical demands of a double under than any...

Re: CF Named WOD Standards

It's the times for men and women on the Baseline workout, which is on the "others" category of the WOD Standards excel file.

Re: GH Sit-ups, Worth The Risk?

I agree with the second part of this, Brian. From reading the journal I've noticed that certain rep schemes have fallen out of favor, but never exercises. I guess the the guys at HQ assume that the...

Re: WOD Helen, 2nd Time

wow, awesome time Michael.. and without kipping? nice.

Helen always takes me out of commission for the rest of the day too, luckily I do the WOD in the evening.

Re: CF Named WOD Standards

There's no similar collection that I know of. However, if the WODs are scaled (weight or reps) down to the pack or puppies level it puts you for the most part into the well-rounded beginner column....

thanks for the input Zach. The sub 4 min Elizabeth was the time on the original template I downloaded, so I just kept it there. I'm going to make a few changes after some more people take a look at...

CF Named WOD Standards

In an effort to see how my times stacked up to others in regard to the named WODs, I tried filling in the missing pieces and exercises on the original template.

I first used the CF Portland skill...

Re: GH Sit-ups, Worth The Risk?

Rhabdo, and I've heard of some injuries because people who are good at doing abmat situps get a little overzealous right out of the gate on the GHD Situps. I can see how some back injuries could...

Re: Pistols

try weightlifting shoes as well. I had the same problem with falling over, but with the shoes I got them on the first try. I also agree with trying a dumbell or KB out in front as a counter balance.

Calculating Fitness

There has been much discussion about Coach's 3D model of fitness where power, time, and age are all put into the same graph. I think this idea of fitness is leading the way in the industry because it...

If you haven't done so already, I'd suggest picking up a copy of Practical Programming for Strength Training by Rippetoe and Kilgore. This book says it all better than I ever could, and I consider it...

Re: Strong sports people?

I that your question is dependent on what level the athlete is playing. A college, professional, or Olympic athlete will obviously need a higher strength level than a high school athlete.

I work...

Anything you do between when the clock is started to when it's stopped counts in your time. This includes puking, reracking weights if you scale incorrectly, resting, etc.

I checked out your log ...

Re: What is considered fit?

Under 12? Maybe if they are CFers. For the average globogym goer, I'm not sure they could finish Fran at all, and if they did it would be disastrously slow.

I think some of the others who pointed...

Nice question.. I'm really interested in seeing some plotted examples of what coach is talking about, both in the 2D and 3D models.. This very innovative and could drive the science of exercise...
