Re: Looking for evidence that kipping pullups do or do not cause shoulder injuries.

I agree. Doing anything high rep when you're not strong enough to handle it is dangerous.

I cased myself acromioclavicular degeneration from too many overhead exercises (thruster, push press,...

Re: Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Take the two weeks off and let it heal. Then slowly get back into working out. 2 shots brought my knee up to about 90%. Even then though, I could fully get it and completed my fire academy with it....

Re: The terrible hundreds

One of the instructors had us do one called the 300, no idea where it came from.

100 pullups
100 pushups
100 sit-ups

We've also added in 100 wall balls on a couple.

Re: Prolotherapy...

You need to wait longer, it's supposed to inflame the area and it will make it more prone to further injury if you work on it too hard.

Your results may vary, but prolo didn;t help my chronic...

Re: How to strengthen and harden your mentality?

Push yourself past whatever you thought you ever could have done. That'll harden you up a bit.

Re: If you designed CrossFit, what would be different?

I wouldn't have any "games" myself, but I just use it to supplement training and stay in shape.

Re: If you really want a six-pack...

I think piling people who do Crossfit into a single bucket is pointless.

Some do it as their sport, using the workouts themselves as the goal (PRs). Some use the workouts to perform better at other...

Re: Hardest workout you've ever done?

Did one the other day, Lt. called it the "50s" workout. Something like this:

Wearing full turnouts and SCBA.

Climb tower 4 times

Shuffle lap around training grounds (about .2 mile)
50 pushups
50...

Re: AC joint surgery

I would follow what your doctor and PT say. If you're not comfortable with your PT, go to another. The Doc who did it should know what you'll need to do and should have a recommendation on a PT for...

Re: Food before working out

I'm not sure how much a protein shake will help for the instant energy production for an early workout, unless it's packed with sugar. May be a waste of calories? I just gnaw on a couple quick things...

Re: Water retention...

Uh...I don't urinate for most of the day and when I do it's dark yellow? Plus I get more tired. Pretty easy to tell.

I'm guessing you two that are asking haven't had to drill in the summer for most...

Re: Water retention...

I don't mean ways to drink more, I'm sure I can drink out of a bottle well enough. :D I'm trying to see if there are any nutritional or natural things I can do to help retain the water I have time...

Water retention...

I'm starting an academy next week, and while I've been through a couple, not a full-time career academy. I have trouble keeping hydrated on strenuous days. I just can't keep the water in me, I sweat...

Re: PRP and Patellar Tendinosis

I had three prolotherapy injections (with saline and B12 I believe) before I did the cortisone shot, with minimal results. I could definitely tell it helped a bit, but not to the degree the PRP did....

PRP and Patellar Tendinosis

Just wanted to share my experience with patellar tendinosis. It almost prevented me from finally getting a job as a paid firefighter.

Over the years I've acutely injured my right knee, backpacking...

Re: Tennis Elbow

I pulled mine a few years ago on heavy deads.

PT and icing never really helped. What got rid of most of it was a cortisone shot. I still feel it slightly after a long stretch of hard pulls, but...

Re: Lifting with a ring

I've lifted for a few years and when training (firefighter) with mine on. It's a titanium ring, but has scratched all up. Has a sweet "brushed" look to it. :D

It pinches my callous on that finger...

That's too bad. My workouts have never really affected/caused me to get or stay sick. Now you know you;ll have to take it a little easier.

Ease? Just go for it. You'll know if you've overdone it (too tired to continue).

Re: Lifting barefoot? Good or bad?

Asphalt has no give - even the hardest packed dirt has give. I would NOT want to walk/run around all day barefoot on asphalt. Good way to get a stress fracture.

Again, padding underneath will...
