Re: Exercise Associated Hyponatremic Encephalopathy, Gatorade and the ACSM

Would love a copy of Dr Noakes book thanks Lynne and HQ.

My take, having coached numerous endurance athletes from half marathons to the Leadville 100. Gatorade, Powerade and the like are...

Re: How to have a successful CrossFit

Jeez where do I start!

Jumping on a message board that you've just joined and offering CrossFit affiliates advice on how to be succesful when you've been operating for a month is just asking to be...

Re: How to have a successful CrossFit

Hmmm....I measure success in differently. Not sure how being open a month can give you an idea of what it takes to be a successful affiliate, let alone give advice on the matter.

Wonder what their...

Re: Drop-In Etiquette

Turn up late to our box and I'd tell you to come back later too. Expect that from our members, a drop-in would be no different.

Re: Is your affiliate open for members to work out on their own?

Every person who sets foot inside our box is coached. Even our group classes are small (max 6 athletes). This is our USP. Yes it reduces how many members we can have, but it keeps quality high and...

Re: Thrusters and shoulder pain

Totally concur with Justin here. The Thruster is exactly that, thrusting the bar overhead using a violent hip extension. I wouldn't be getting my form tips from too many of the workout videos....

Re: How much can a 6 year old deadlift?

Pic of my 6-year old doing a double B/W deadlift with a 24kg KB. Helps that he was a scrawny 12kg at the time!

Re: gf starting cf

2 things

1. Don't train your missus. Recipe for disaster!

2. Stick to the Fundamentals. With CrossFit, there are 9 fundamental movements. Air Squat, Front Squat, OHS, Press, Push Press, Push Jerk,...

Re: Is high intensity best for fat reduction / weight loss?

In short EPOC.

High intensity efforts will jack up your metabolism whilst your training AND after. Long slow distance stuff won't.

Better to be a fat burning machine all day than just for a 30min...

Re: One month in, but only one pound?

The only weight you should be concerned with is the one your lifting! Who gives a toss if someone loses more 'weight'. They're probably still fat, unfit and unhealthy.

Your the fittest dude there....

Re: No Benching in CF?

If you want to bench, bench. No biggie.

CF does include bench as has been previously mentioned. Is it functional? Yes. Is it over-used in "traditional" gym programs? Yes.

Don't get too caught up in...

Re: Working my way to WOD.

For most newbies starting with us their limiting factor is strength.

I'd focus on the basic gymnastics stuff, Air Squats, Pull Ups, Push Ups, Sit Ups, Back Ext etc, as well as Back Squats, Deads...

Re: T-Nation, Shugart and the Truth About CrossFit

Overall, not a bad article. Fairly well balanced and researched. But I was disappointed to see Cosgrove, Boyd and Poliquin quoted in there. There's three blokes who clearly don't get it.

Regarding...
