Re: high fat diets

Justin,

Haven't read the article in question, but several diets are designed around the concept of making you burn fat vs. carbs as your primary energy source. The one with the most exposure on...

Re: preping for SFAS in Afghanistan

Cole,

Given your location, my advise would be to keep hitting the WODs as hard as possible. Also check out www.CrossFitendurance.com (wfs) and add one or two of those per week to your...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Joe,

The magic pill is cheese! An easy snack that's high in fat and calories.

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Mike,

I'm by no means an AD expert, but from my experience being on it for a little over a year, you really have to play with the numbers to see what works best for you.

To clarify, are you...

Re: Steel Bumper Plates

Don,

We actually have two pair of these powermax 45's and one pair of the 25's. We bought them three years ago and they have held up well. Some pro's and con's…

pro's: Consistent width between...

Re: Deployment Diet

Chad,

Another diet alternative you may want to look into, especially while deployed is the Anabolic Diet. I had great success with cutting body fat and adding lean mass as well as performance...

Re: jump / jerk boxes

Michael,

As a jump box, you stack them up to whatever height you want. Because they are 4" each you can have boxes in any increment of 4", which includes the most common crossfit heights of 20" and...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Ryan,

Great to see that you're still on the wagon. Don't get discouraged at weekly numbers, but look towards the long term trends. A two week plateau isn't bad at all and will become common the...

Re: jump / jerk boxes

Ahmik,

Yea, I would have used 3/4" plywood but was being anal about the extra 1/4" throwing off my even box numbers. I was initially leery that the 1/2" plywood wouldn't be able to handle the high...

Re: jump / jerk boxes

Adam,

Yea, those are the ones I originally saw. I love how beefy they are, but just a bit too big for our gym. We're already tight on room, so needed to keep the footprint a bit smaller, as well...

jump / jerk boxes

A while back I saw some pretty spiffy jerk boxes for Oly practice and thought it would be nice to have those at my gym but they were pretty big and looked like they took up a lot of room. From that...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Ryan,

Great job so far. Mind sharing some specifics for everyone, such as:

- Current daily calorie intake
- Difference between non-carb and carb day calories
- Target body weight
- Current bf

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Ryan,

The AD book details a pretty accurate method of checking your bodyfat (bf) loss/ muscle gain vs. body weight (bw). You'll need two pieces of kit. The first is a normal weight scale. I went...

Re: Joining a CrossFit Gym vs. Doing it at home

Markus,

I'd say Ben hit it on the head. If you can afford it, then definitely go. Working with a competent CF trainer will speed up your progress by an order of magnitude that you can't get...

Re: Using Forms with blogspot?

Rahsaan,

I haven't used forms, but I did run into large amounts of space between text and inserted html (paypal buttons). The way I fixed it was to go into the "compose" view after I pasted the...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

I agree with Derek, the AD can be used to go up or down the scale. Reading his book (very detailed) lays it all out, but in a nutshell once you pass the adaptation phase you can maintain, mass...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Ryan,

That is what I experienced for the first few months. I would see 5-7 lbs increase the morning after my weekend carb binge, then see it bleed off within 2-3 days.

Now (8 months on AD) I...

Re: Big like Amundson

Just to chime in on the "what are Greg A's stats" thread, if you look back in the CFJ archives at issue 31 (March 2005) they have an article titled "Fooling around with Fran." It states "…who is...

Re: Anabolic Diet - My Progress

Derek,

Interesting. Pretty much the opposite happened for the wife and I, gaining a lot more energy than before the AD. Of course my metcon WODs suck from the word go regardless of diet.

Good deal on trying the AD. I've been following it since the beginning of the year and posted my 6 month results on our blog here:...

Re: Finally finished my platform...

Stephen,

I honestly don't remember which hardwood we used for the landing platform. I was about $50.00 a sheet at Lowes. I doubt it makes much of a difference, but then I'm no real expert in wood...

Re: Finally finished my platform...

A slight variation on our part was to use just screws, forgoing the glue. This made it very easy to disassemble our platform and move it when we bought a new house. I can tell of no negative impact...

Re: McMaster Carr Pallet Bands - Which ones?

All our bands are the 113", just like the ones Bob ordered. Unless you're really short (like small child short), these will work for anyone. My wife is 5' and had no problems when she used them.

Andrew,

I just retired a year ago, so we only ran CrossFit Clarksville for a couple of months before I was out. With that said:

There's not so much a conflict of interest as there is a lack of...

Re: What Crossfit is NOT

No other thread really grabbed me, so I'm gonna deconstruct this one. I'm not adding anything (or much anyway) to the discussion, just bored. ;-)

We start with the OP informing us that "But the...
