Re: dropping normal plates(non-bumper) on concrete

Your best bet would be to purchase one pair of 45's. They're typically larger than most metal plates, so they'll take most of the impact when you drop them.

I used to own the same type weights,...

Re: Help Finding Mat in Houston, TX

I got mine at Steinhauser's in Alvin off Hwy 6. They're 4'X6'. Larger one's are really tough because that's the standard size in the agriculture industry apparently. Good luck though.

Re: Home Gym Questoin

Craigslist is a good place to find cheap equipment. Building it yourself has some sentiment, but depending on how strong you are it might not be practical or safe.

I got lucky and found one (w/...

Re: Muscle Milk

I'm tossing down a beer as I write this reply to you, so I'm sure someone will have issue with my reply and my habits, so maybe I'll help take some of the heat off you.

As everyone's already said...

Re: 11' x 10' Garage Gym

For the iron plates hit up craigslist. I've bought a ton of plates, hit 'em with spray paint and got 'em looking great. IMO 25's and 35's are a waste once you've got a full set of bumpers, so I'd...

Re: Source for Kettlebells in Houston area?

Winston Fitness on Shepherd carries KB's up to 100 lbs. If you're looking for one's for a woman (i.e. 8-15 lbs) I've had good luck with the one's from Target. I didn't find Play It Again Sports to...

Re: Pre-Workout Supps?!

I've taken all different types of supplements. You name it and I've tried it, mainly because of my experience as personal trainer, which was years before I started doing CrossFit.

My personal...

Re: making olympic platforms

I used (4) 3/4", and made the top out of 3/4" oak w/ (2) horse stall mats for the landing area. Before putting it all together, I stained the oak top w/ ebony stain (be patient because it'll take 2...

Re: Rings: Rogue vs. Elite

Let's think...thicker strap and heavier ring. Go with the Rogue Rings. I've seen both and there is no comparison.

Re: Crossfit Bumpers at Roguefitness

The Rogue Fitness bumpers are good enough for my home gym. I've had them for a month now with only a few minor problems.

One of the 45lb plates has a gash in the side, who knows how that...

Re: Building a Platform

I went w/ 4 plywood (15/32") and an oak (3/4")top. No one tells you that standard stall mats are 4'X6', so you'll need to get two if you go the entire length of your platform. I stained mine with...

Re: Lifting Platform Question

I'm using solid oak, not veneered wood.

Sanding down the wood never crossed my mind, but it makes complete sense. I'll be sure and take pictures for the website.

Lifting Platform Question

I am building a lifting platform the way decribed in many previous posts. I've decided to go with oak for the top so it will look nice and last a long time. I would like to stain it dark, paint my...
