Re: 70s big schedule

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kind words. Milton expresses a concept I try to get through, especially with the e-books I'm writing, that a template is supposed to work for you, instead of just breaking...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Sheldon, thanks for sharing. This is the kind of story that makes this "writing and helping people" thing pleasant.

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

You'll figure it out. Just hang some weight from a belt and see where you're at. Testing it in the gym is the best answer since nobody in this thread will know what your actual weight will be.

When...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Hey guys,

I recently had to switch servers on the site (it, uh...got too 70's Big for the old server), and it messed up the URL for some of the links.

In any case, if any of you were still looking...

Re: Starting Strength Advisory

I'm still at a loss why someone would think they would need to consume a gallon of milk a day, or in other words 2400 calories and 128g of protein, if they aren't a very skinny guy. That's like...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

As much time as I've been on the internet, you'd think I could figure this out. I combined all the responses to thread quotes in one message, and I'm trying to delete my extraneous posts. Feel free...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

Link me, por-fa-please.

I don't view it as supplemental; the work load is certainly enough.

If that's bacon in that avatar, then that is a solid pic.

Re: Changing City and State

Hey Kelly,

I am now in Panama City, FL. Can you pull an ol' switcheroo on my location?

Thank you.

Edit: Nice squatting the other day.

An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

A lot of people on this board were interested when I posted the "CFWF Programming" in 2009. CrossFit was dropped from that facility later that year. I don't necessarily teach CrossFit (although I've...

Re: Client getting bigger / stronger

Remind women like this that having more metabolically active tissue (muscle mass) is going to increase their metabolism and help get rid of that fat.

What facility were you at?

Re: addressing deadlift weakness.

When you say "starting lower" do you mean that your shoulders are lower? This is true, and the butt would be higher. That's just how it is, and yes it is mechanically disadvantageous. Know how I...

Re: Client getting bigger / stronger

This is the key. It depends on what her view of body image is as well as those in the gym/facility. If you're training her, then you set the tone for this. One of my goals is to help change the idea...

Re: addressing deadlift weakness.

The original poster needs to share his height and bodyweight for anyone to make any serious suggestions.

And the sumo deadlift won't yield functional gains in strength like the conventional...

Re: Going Green

It's not on that site because it's something I created.

You can increase the weight on the Olympic lifts on the days where it is specified that you go heavy on each lift. If Monday is the heavy...

Re: Are there bumper plates that will fit 405KG or more on bar?

If you're going to be squatting above 500 pounds (almost 900 to break this record you speak of........), you're not gonna want to do it with bumpers. They make the bar bounce all funny because the...

Re: Wearing a belt

I'm certainly not a big name, but everyone here has summed up the arguments for wearing a belt from a physiological standpoint. In my opinion, the argument for wearing a belt easily trumps that of...

Re: Experience with Starting Strength

This is a good point. The 5RM stuff was created on the internet instead of anything that was officially written about the program. What relative weight you'd be lifting x amount of weeks into doing...

Re: Belts...

Cliff notes on the 70's Big articles:

A belt has an acute and chronic use. It pneumatically supports and thus strengthens the spine acutely and it makes the abs contract harder and thus get more...

I'm proud of all you guys. This really is the best advice in this situation (without having any more information than what was presented in the original post). Also, when you are stronger,...

Re: CrossFit Wichita Falls Programming

It's a good thing I'm not a professional then.

But I did write a post yesterday that contained the word poop 26 times. It was informative too.
