Re: Crossfit as an Olympic Sport

The idea of having CrossFit as something like a track meet for high schools and colleges was talked about on the forums. However, instead of a group of people coming up with events and standards on...

The Benefits of Squatting (on the toilet)

Re: What do ya'll think of the "suprise" games announcement?

Yeah, I think the CF Games organizers take this to the extreme and it doesn't accomplish much. Knowing events two to four weeks ahead of time like we did in Regionals isn't going to have a major...

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

I'm not partial to bracketed placement, plus in fairness they should also require all competitors to race through the O-Course three times (wear and tear equal for everybody). However, it's that...

Re: A drug free 620 lbs front squat!

Oddly enough, after seeing the link I followed up on the "Superhuman: Super Strong", "Superhuman: Steroids" and "Bigger, Faster, Stronger".

I don't regret the time spent watching those. Especially...

Re: 2012 Opens vs. Regionals Athletes

It's always been my opinion that DNFs that remove athletes from competition don't belong in CrossFit competitions. If an event is so specific that only 1 out of 100 people can do the event, then that...

Re: 2012 Opens vs. Regionals Athletes

I can see Reebok and ESPN getting together to create a cross sport competition where each major physical sport (sorry Poker players) can submit 5 to 10 possible events, then 10 are selected at random...

Re: how often Practice FRAN?

Probably wrong, but I think some of these could help change things up. The idea works for many of the benchmark WODs.

Do an occasional scaled Fran using 50% your 1rm (include your BW for the pull-up...

Re: Who is the Mainsite WOD for?

From my understanding, the mainsite WOD is for the athlete that's at the "advanced" level for skills and attributes (meaning "elite" overall fitness):

Male
68" to 72"
180 to 200 lbs
200 press, 300...

Re: Unusual question: lifting percentages for bodyweight exercises

With exception of squats, your BW should be part of the equation on those types of legs. This can cause problems when your scaled weight puts you below BW. At times like that, it's reasonable to use...

Re: 2012 Opens vs. Regionals Athletes

The 20x Double Under/Snatch Ladder is inspired and variants of it can solve such issues in the future. Just have a Couplet where you have 10 minutes to get 5 burpees and a deadlift ladder or 7...

Re: How many calories do we burn with an average CF workout?

Was about to post the same thing. In addition, the body is repairing itself from the stress (damage) done to it during an intense workout.

As others have put it - CrossFit exercises do not make you...

Re: How long should you trust your "PR" as a gauge for scaling?

Yeah, I would hope I'm getting stronger. On the other extreme, there's no need to do a CFT every week. Is there a happy medium when one should look to get a measured result. Now that's not just in...

Re: How long should you trust your "PR" as a gauge for scaling?

Strength 1rm for the most part I measure quite often (much more than when I followed only the main page wods). Those are for the big lifts of deadlift, back squat, bench, pull-up and press. I haven't...

Re: 2012 Opens vs. Regionals Athletes

If they still have the Open being one wod tested multiple times a week for five or six weeks, that's never going to be the same difficulty as six wods tested once in three days as we're not testing...

Re: 2012 Opens vs. Regionals Athletes

Umm, you didn't just ask the question. You also gave only one of two options as the only anwer. In addition to that, one of those options was calling the athletes cheaters that DNF'd.

Now, there are...

Re: Crossfit 2012 regional data combined

Why is WOD 1 topping out at 17 points for the men?

Like last year, can you include the open results for the individual men, women and group? The group would be interesting as the people changed on...

How long should you trust your "PR" as a gauge for scaling?

I scale my workouts based off my recent personal records. For example, if I had 300# bench and 440# DL pr, I'd do 150# bp (50%), 220# dl (50%) and 110# clean (25% DL) for a Linda workout. For metcon...

Re: How to work on pistols

I've tested doing these on boxes where the boxes are side by side. Main reason was to simulate stair climbing, but scaling pistols can also work. Anyway, go down then up on left leg, switch to the...

Re: Strength vs. Speed

The slow run time is odd. She's tall and should have a good stride length. Could it just be a techique matter and not conditioning here?

Rebecca, what are you equivalent bike and row times? 1500m...

Re: Tips to get to 20 deadhang pull ups?

If you're doing Westside or 5-3-1, you can add Pull-ups to that. For the weight, it'll be your bodyweight plus what you add via a dip belt. Early on when you have to do reps at less than body weight,...

Re: Heaviest Person to ever do a muscle-up?

How about someone doing weighted muscle-ups for overall score? You'd think there'd be a record somewhere. Beyond the whiteboard maybe?

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

The CF Games =/= the Olympics. CF uses regions based on competitor density, not countries or overall population. Jeez, the Asian region represents over 2 billion people yet is the second to smallest...

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Just because something is a certain way, doesn't mean a tangential related event must behave the same way. Then again, those sport champion play-offs have wild card spots, so why not CF Games...

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

A fair compromise is: Top three from each region plus top twenty or thirty overall go to the games. Most of the top twenty will already be going so perhaps this'll add another five names. With this...
