Re: Maximum Pushups: How did/do you do it?

For people who are maxing out push-ups every day, are you also doing "push" strength training (like bench press and shoulder press) or Crossfit WODs that feature exercises like HSPUs or ring...

Re: How thorough is the crossfit games drug testing? Surely some athletes are doping

Sadly, there is a somewhat logical set of reasoning that leads to the conclusion that an athlete is likely to be using PEDs. And it's tough for me not to take it into consideration, even though...

Re: Top 10 or so Athletes You'd Like to See at the Games

I also question whether highly honed lifters and sprinters would have the requisite endurance, or were even that capable of it. I imagine that they are the extreme example of fast twitch muscle...

Re: Next cycle after "failing" at 5-3-1

Do you have a link to this?

I've been happy with the results so far, and I'm still increasing on deadlifts and squats. But obviously I'm not going to just increase forever, so I was looking for...

Re: Next cycle after "failing" at 5-3-1

Can't remember tbh, but I went through 5-6 cycles successfully, increasing weight after each one, before I had that setback.

Next cycle after "failing" at 5-3-1

My last bench cycle for doing 5-3-1 looked something like this:

5-5-4
3-3-3
5-3-0

I might be able to write off some of those bad lifts to having a slight elbow injury and some heavy travel, but...

Re: Weighted hill sprints (20kg vest)

The uphill part isn't what concerns me, it's the weight vest.

Re: Weighted hill sprints (20kg vest)

I'm sure it is a great workout, but I would be worried about the strain to my knees and ankles.

Re: Rude to do 1 free xfit week if I know I won't join?

That's what I think, too. If there were two boxes in the OP's area and they read this thread I would think that they would both be trying to convince you to come in and try their place instead of...

Re: How often do you test your 1RM?

Are you maxing that often because you want the feedback/data of knowing precisely what your 1RM is at any time and how it is changing? Or are you doing this just because it is a weigh of using the...

How often do you test your 1RM?

Never? Once every X months? At the end of a strength cycle? Whenever you're having a good day at the gym?

As random as the list above seems, I've used each approach at different times over the...

Re: Best S&C Exercises for Boxing

I'm interested to know if the question was directed towards what a typical, standard boxing workout routine would be--the type that a boxing trainer would have you go through--or whether the question...

Re: Ufc 160

I'm hoping for good fights, but I'm not expecting them.

IMO, Cain and JDS are on a different level than the other HWs out there. Since they can only fight each other so often, the rest of their...

Re: OHS/Snatch Problems...why can't I figure it out?!?!

Sounds like the same problems I have. With the disclaimer that this is self-diagnosed I think my problem (and maybe yours) is a combination of two mobility issues: shoulders and ankles. I can...

Re: instead Handstand push-ups?

Are you able to support yourself at all against a wall? If so, you could try stacking ab-mats (or pillows, if you are training at home) under where your head would normally hit the ground. Lower...

Re: Push/Pull/Legs focused WODs?

I would anticipate a lot of variation in the metcon push and pull exercises you would do on a certain day; probably not much variation in the strength portion done before (maybe throwing in some Oly...

Re: Push/Pull/Legs focused WODs?

I see a lot of discussions on supplementing Crossfit with strength programs like 5/3/1 or 5x5 and I would think that there would be concerns about compromising lifts by doing these full-body...

Push/Pull/Legs focused WODs?

Is there any Crossfit (or other) program that designs WODs around the basic principal of focusing on certain muscle groups so that other muscle groups can rest?

For example, metcon WODs that would...

Re: Difference in ring muscle ups vs bar muscle ups

I know the general advice is a false grip, but how necessary is that? My grip strength and wrist flexibility is pretty good (much better than my shoulders) and I think I can handle the torque of...

Re: Difference in ring muscle ups vs bar muscle ups

Thanks for the response.

I don't want to give the impression that I can do a slow, controlled "gymnast-like" MU, even on a bar. I kick my legs up like I'm going to spike a volleyball or something,...

Difference in ring muscle ups vs bar muscle ups

I've never been able to do a ring muscle up, even though I can do 3-4 MUs on a bar (split handles, so don't need to push out that far) and I can sink deep into ring dips or weighted ring dips. I'm...
