Re: Cost no Object Kettlebells.

Get competition kettlebells. AKC or performbetter or something like that. Maybe ISGF has something they like. Anyway, competition over anything else.

On slices of Bell Pepper works best for me.

Re: Forward Roll on Rings

Will give it a try, thanks! (And I wouldn't have thought of that on my own...)

Re: Forward Roll on Rings

Just to clarify, he can't do the actual roll part (at least not regularly)! Haven't gotten to the muscle-up aspect of it yet : (

Re: Forward Roll on Rings

Hey Blair,

He's reasonably competent: can do 5 or so very strict (slow, arms off straps, turn out at top) dips. Doesn't have the best sense of his body in space, which makes me wonder if it's...

Re: Forward Roll on Rings

When he fails, his hips start to go up, but never make it over his shoulders and he just drops back down again. I'm not completely clear on whether it's a strength or a coordination problem, though...

Forward Roll on Rings

Weird question (probably for Steven...)

I can do this without trouble, but have a hell of a time understanding what exactly needs to be strong to make it happen. I'm working w/someone now who can...

Re: Gym rings and Muscle ups

Muscle up negatives work well too. Like 3-5 sets of 3, or thereabouts.

Re: Slate's "fitness" issue talks CrossFit

I think she's just confused. I read that article too. It's pretty awful, though other articles on Xfit have been so bad that the bar is low.

Re: Kettlebells

Here's a good video for press technique. He's doing it unilaterally, but the same general technique applies for two-at-a-time. Note where the press starts and ends.

Re: Kettlebells

Not posting this to be a jerk, but it's probably worth watching to put the 24Kg. in perspective. There's a *lot* of technique to this stuff! That Mountain Athlete video is fine and all, but they...

Re: Kettlebells

I say this a lot, but people seem to neglect jerks and long cycle a bit around here.

If you think about it, kettlebell long cycle with 2x32Kg. kettlebells is essentially Grace (Clean & Jerk) but...

Re: An Effective, Yet Simple Strength and Conditioning Program

For whatever it's worth, I have (pre-existing) slightly tweaky shoulders, but have never had any trouble w/weighted ring dips. You don't really use a ton of weight, compared w/bar dips. I kind of...

Re: Canned Clams!?

Yeah yeah, sardines. They're great. Whatever. This is about canned smoked clams! Which are just amazing.

Canned Clams!?

Sounds awful, right? It turns out that Crown Prince smoked clams are like the yummiest thing I've tasted in recent memory. Just don't look at them very closely.

Any pros or cons as far as paleo,...

Re: Bear Complex/Man Maker, any other exercises like this?

For fun, try complexes (where appropriate) with a sandbag.

One thing I've never liked about Bear is the bar crashing onto my back as I get tired, and sandbag actually fixes that particular problem.

Re: Starting Strength without a Bench Press Spot???

Just as an aside to Mark from upstate, Manhattan gyms, even big chain ones, can get pretty deserted at off hours. I live here, have worked in them, and have no trouble believing that it might be...

Re: Thoughts after 2 cycles of 5/3/1

Maybe this has been mentioned already, but one thing that's probably worth thinking about is that CFT may not be the best way to track gains on 5/3/1. Wendler talks a bit about this in the ebook: ...

Re: Is The Cross Grip front Squat Acceptable....?

There was a video posted on this site just the other day where a clean was caught on shoulders with no hands at all, then jerked overhead.

You can always bump the bar up to get hands into position...

Re: Back Lever Question

Ok, so the hand position isn't a problem for me, but the hunched upper back is. What's the best stretch for the shoulders in that position? I'm guessing skin the cats and pushing the german hang...

Back Lever Question

My back lever looks very much like this guy's (I don't have a photo of mine):

Re: Press to Handstand Pushup

I sometimes wonder how much hand width contributes to this. I know pretty reliably that I can do HeSPU (not HSPU) at 185lbs. BW when my press hits 150lbs., which is a much higher percentage than...

Re: Pull ups on wide bar

All the guys who work out in the playgrounds near me get those $1 gloves w/rubber on the palm, and it works great.
