Re: CrossFit Bashing

Naysayers never tire of trotting out that claim about the 750lbs deadlift, but if memory serves, Robb Wolf corroborated it, either on this message board, Performance Menu, or his own blog. My memory...

Wright Rubber Colored Bumpers - Closest Equivalent?

I really like Wright Rubber's colored bumper plates. They have a satisfying "bounce" (which their black plates lack--a different quality of rubber, maybe) that just makes them more fun to WOD with....

Re: Dede

This is so, so sad. My heart goes out to Dede's family, and her affiliate trainers as well. You can take every reasonable precaution but still, you never know. Sometimes, like this, the...

Re: Heels at the bottom of the burpee

My opinion: having to time the jump forward with the end of the push-up so that you land with your feet flat beneath increases the agility component of the exercise. Also, landing on the balls of the...

Re: Would you wear a t-shirt for an affiliate you've never visited?

If you think it's swanky, buy it. Not only will you have a new favorite t-shirt, you'll be doing the affiliate the best kind of favor--giving them free advertising, as well as delicious money.

I...

Re: Sports and Fitness not covering CrossFit

This must be VERY recent, because I just got a back-up policy through them, dated 2/11, specifically for CF facilities.

Re: Bent York Bar Worth Buying?

You can still squat with it. Cleans and snatches are definitely problematic, 'cause the bar will roll in your hands, and it could end with the slight "u"-bend inverted...very uncomfortable.

Re: What exercises aren't part of crossfit programming, but you think should be?

more rotational stuff, like lunging buelers, kettlebell chops, and sandbag half-moons. also, perhaps movements that emphasize balance and agility in directions other than just forward or up/down,...

Michael, I don't have an answer for your question but I do want to give you props for having such a badass (and fairly uncommon) last name :)

Re: Shoddy, Warped Barbells

Hey Bill,

Thanks for the response. These were Powermax bars too, 28mm and 33mm. They're all bending. Rats! Never expected to have to replace them after a year's use. Caveat emptor.

Re: USAW Sports Performance Coach vs CSCS

Oh god, I'm giving in and renewing. $25 fee + $30 for 2 online quizzes + $80 for a (laughable) home study course worth 2 CEUs. What a scam. But given this latest buzz about the NBFE and lawsuits and...

Re: USAW Sports Performance Coach vs CSCS

Just got off the phone with the NSCA. Everyone awarded a CSCS since 2005 has to re-certify this year.

here's the score: if you got it in 2005, you have to turn in 6 CEUs. Because I got mine Dec. of...

Re: USAW Sports Performance Coach vs CSCS

My two cents: I got my CSCS last year, for some of the reasons mentioned above. But I really haven't found it to be useful. (At the time I actually chose the CSCS over my CF level II, a decision for...

Re: 992 sq ft box (give or take)

It's workable. Our space is about 800 sq ft, and mostly we've been able to conduct workouts without problems. Our classes peak at about 12 or so athletes, which can be a bit of a problem if everyone...

He is lifting! It's so certain it may as well already be in the history books, but we still have it to look forward to!

Re: Thruster specifics?

Painful experience taught me thrusters are best done with the bar in what might be termed the "half-rack" position--that is, laying across the shoulders, with elbows canted forwards, and the bar held...

Re: Dammit Dammit Dammit!

A mixed bag tonight.

Starting Strength Week 8, Day 1. Body weight: 195lbs (196 yesterday).

Okay, so, I bombed my squat again. Did all my warm-up sets, got psyched up, got under my work weight, and...
