Re: Gslp

Just to play devils advocate: Just because Wendler posts some examples of beginners where it worked, doesn't mean that it works for 100% of the people that try it. I've also seen quite a few reports...

Re: Gslp

Might not happen THAT often that people get weaker on 531, but I've read several people report that issue after a few cycles on it. Might not be common, but I've never heard it for other programs...

Re: Gslp

Thanks, Eric.

Will think a bit more about it. Maybe I will also just give normal 5/3/1 a try for a few months. I just looked at my logs and it doesn't look like I've made more progress than 2.5kg...

Re: Gslp

What about keeping GSLP but for squats doing 3 sets with increasing weight instead of 3 sets across. For example 5x120, 5x130, 5+x140?

Re: Gslp

Thanks! What would you do if you would be in my position though? Switch to 5/3/1, live with slower gains and the fact that it will take a while to get a decent 1RM for pressing and benching? 5/3/1 is...

Re: Gslp

Slowly feeling like it might be time to move onto some other program, especially because of squatting. At 83kg bw my 5RM for the squat is currently 150k and it starts to feel brutal and miserable to...

Re: Gslp

Makes sense. Thanks!

I've also noticed that now with the assistance work training is definitely taking around 75-80 mins + 10-15 mins of mobility work afterwards. Is that in any way unideal? I...

Re: Gslp

Is there any other way to emphasis upper body strength more at the price of slower gains when it comes to squatting and deadlifting? More than bench pressing/pressing and assistance work 3 times a...

Re: Gslp

Any reason why 3-4 and not just 2 sets, like mentioned in the book? Just to get more volume?

Why dips only after pressing and incline bench after bench? Is the point to do an assistance movement...

Re: Gslp

My upper body strength is pretty weak compared to the rest (At 79kg bw, 87kg bench, 63kg press, 158kg squat, 205kg deadlift). Would it make sense to do more upper body assistance lifts than just two...

Re: Gslp

Stefan, I've struggled with similar issues. What hugely helped me is being more aggressive, some caffein before training, making sure I've eaten enough and also not too long ago (>4 hours) before...

Re: Gslp

But there are very few max reps sets. Couldn't it be that they by themselves are not enough? I remember that for the other sets, it felt like super light warmup sets that really didn't feel taxing at...

Re: Gslp

Eric, you switched back to GSLP from 5/3/1? Why?

Thinking about giving 5/3/1 another shot soon. I've tried it last year and 2 or 3 months in I've lost some strength. Diet, recovery, sleep was all...

Re: Gslp

Do you guys do deload weeks with GSLP? A few people say that life with give you a deload week.. because you are sick, can't make it to the gym and so on. Personally that hasn't been the case for me....

Re: Gslp

I'm travelling once in a while and mostly don't have access to a proper gym for a week. Only a hotel gym with dumb bells. What do you think is a good program to do instead of GSLP during that time?...

Re: Gslp

Been dealing with some pretty annoying bronchitis, but should be good to go again next week. That means I will have missed 5 workouts (training 3 days a week). I don't think I've lost any weight,...

Re: Gslp

How bad is it to take 1 rest day where normally 2 are prescribed once in a while. For example I worked out Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this week. I know that on Tuesday I'm not gonna be in great...

Re: Gslp

Definitely haven't decided that 531 doesn't work for me.. like I said, I will give it at least a few more months before I decide whether it works or not.

I don't think I've "set low expectations for...

Re: Gslp

I'm 190 pounds, male, 6", eat mostly clean, get 8 hours of sleep, but work a pretty stressful job. What sort of numbers should I be able to hit with GSLP until having to switch to a different...

Re: Gslp

In terms of numbers I'm obviously nowhere near you guys. But I keep thinking that my ratio of press and bench are a bit off somehow. My bw is 89kg, 5rm bench 67.5kg, 5rm press 55 kg. So my press is...

Re: Gslp

Thanks!

So after a reset, normal increments, not bigger ones like in SS are used? I'm just asking because it seems like it will take a while to get back to the weight where I failed. For example if...

Re: Gslp

Makes sense.. But then again, you could also just have a bad day (not enough sleep, food, bad form, etc) and everything could be fine on the 2nd attempt.. Thats one of the reasons why SS gives you 3...
