Re: Parking on Lifting Platform

I park a car on top of stall mats with a tarp on top. No problem at all. Not sure about the wood portion of an actual platform though.

Re: Plantar fasciitis

Yes, I suffered from this for almost a year. The best things I did to treat (and later to prevent) were:
1. stretching, specifically calf and achilles stretches
2. strengthening the feet

How...

Re: 2012 Open, Regional and Games thread

Has it been decided or posted *where* the individual regionals will be held? I am specifically interested in South Central. Will it be in Tomball, TX again?

Re: cheap vibram knock offs

Strong second for aqua socks. I wear them for my warm-up and for the metcon portion of most of my workouts. Off the top of my head, the benefits are: 1. cost $5 instead of $80-$100; 2. easier to take...

Re: Warm-ups May Hone Mind, but not Body

I read the tone of the article as warmups are not needed for running and cycling. This was basically all that was cited, with the exception of at the end, where the article agrees that a warmup is...

Re: Final games thoughts

It's funny, I did not even consider that people would have problems with the stationary bike. I mean, they were on that thing for about 1 minute at a time. As much as I like to be entertained, I...

Re: Looking to build self-punishing workouts.

I've been collecting these, as well. I apologize for my lack of attribution on some of these. I never intended to publish this list. I agree with the earlier posts: Kalsu really is the king of these....

Re: Box Jump Fail

Maybe drape a yoga mat on the top and over the side of the box. That should defend against the scrape.

and/or consider wearing shin guards.

Re: Great article about minimalist footwear

I wear the Injiji-brand socks with the Vibrams, which completely eliminates the odor problem. This time of year, you can find toe socks for cheap at many pharmacy aisles. They tend to be Holiday...

Re: Sub for Clean and Jerk while at the beach

Buy a top-loading army duffel bag, and some contractor trash bags. Fill those puppies up with 25 lbs or so with beach sand, and lift that bad boy from the ground to overhead anyhow.

Re: Bench Sub...

The Fitness Conduit site has been listing "floor press". Can anyone speak to this as a sub?

Re: Can I park on my horse stall mats?

Same as Derek, I put a tarp over the stall mats available from Tractor Supply. No issues whatsoever after two years.

Re: Vff

Hey, I would recommend finding a local retailer and sizing/buying there. It is important that you get the toe length correct. I have been a 10.5 all my life, and was surprised that I could not fit in...

Re: Rediculous Idea for Rings...?

Hey, I used the Nylabone for about a year before buying a second set of rings. They never broke, but I was always ready for them to go at any rep. They are a smaller diameter than you might think, so...

Re: When you can't get to the gym.

I would say spend twenty bucks combined on a top-loading Army duffel bag, some contractor bags or pillow cases, and some sand, and you are in even better shape. Especially if your pull-up station...

Re: Why Dynamax?

I'm going to throw my two cents in. Of all the equipment I have purchased in the last year, my Dynamax ball is easily the least used. I would go with the basketball and sand option. For testing squat...

Re: Sawhorses for spotter racks - experiences?

I place my sawhorses well to the outside of my squat rack. If I have to dump the weight, the sawhorses catch the bar close to the endpoints. When I was first placing the sawhorse, they were catching...

Re: Who does everything RX'ed daily?

I follow the Brand X Pack scalings very closely on a 3 on, 1 off schedule. What might be unique is that I follow the WOD four days in the past (one micro-cycle behind).

I use these four days for...

Re: Source for Kettlebells in Houston area?

Check out the Houston Kettlebell Club in League City. Last I was there, they had Dragon Door and a cheaper brand. I recommend their introductory workshop, as well. Very worth it.

Re: Fight gone bad - box jumps/step ups?

I am another vote in favor of step-ups counting the same. It is the same mass moving the same distance. You are self-penalizing by a slower turnover rate, but maybe that's how you game an FGB.

Re: Hot car tires OK on horse stall mats?

I place a tarp over my horse stall mats. The tarp shows no damage due to hot tires, so I assume the hot tires are not damaging the mats.

It is nice having a garage gym that can still function as a...

Re: Best Named WOD for 6 wk test - ??

I would recommend any benchmark workout that the participants can do unmodified. For this reason, I would avoid any workout with a lot of pullups, or moving heavy weight.

FGB, as mentioned before,...
