I carry mine on trips in an old school single ball bowling ball bag that I bought for a dollar at goodwill. Works like a charm, and I put my wrestling shoes under it, and my mma gloves on top.

Not really, when in the traditional pushup position, feet together, you are in effect, a tripod. An extremely stable set up.

Lying flat on your back, stabilizer muscle are taxed to a greater extent.
