Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I am confused by the 15 percent penalty that JB got on 16.4. So 100 bad reps are worth 85 good reps? I'd think the just thing to do is to count the number of good DLs that JB did instead and have...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

RE 16.5 with all those big names and that it is on The Ranch, it has to be some sort of grand finale. Some movements already done this year will probably be repeated at a different load. I can't...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

On the different-sized plates, this is a different but related topic:

A few years ago one of the Open workouts was a deadlift ladder w increasing weights (for the guys 135-185-225-275-315-365)...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I don't think it is possible to devise a scoring system that doesn't have some weird things happen, even if there is only one score entered per week. For example:

Person A and Person B are in...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I think rejecting people for "effort" is stupid and totally unnecessary.

1. In any race/sporting event/ect, there is going to be strategy when it comes to effort.

2. This sandbagging could be...

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

This is a lot like filling out brackets for the NCAA Tournament! My guess

16.1/A: AMRAP Metcon (maybe T2B, deadlifts, cleans (135/95)) followed by a 1RM Snatch

16.2: AMRAP CTB Pull-ups + C&J...

Re: Regional Competitor - "CF is not a Sport"

Interesting articles. My thoughts...

1. CF is already doing quite well even "going dark" after the Games. Every sport has its off-season. These non-CF-sanctioned comps fill a void nicely even if a...

Will this work? Home gym question....

I am renting a place that has an outdoor concrete patio. I am thinking of setting up a very rudimentary "gym" there: i.e., putting down a rubber mat on the concrete, and getting a barbell and some...

Re: 14.3 Rules Clarification

Is there any restriction on the plates used? I actually feel there should be. They ought to require a certain number of full-diameter plates depending on the weight you're at.

Someone could have as...

Re: 14.3 funny thinking about it

RE a possible Open workout... At L1 Certs last summer we did this metcon with thrusters and burpees. Sucked just as much as Fran.

Just sayin....

Re: Zercher Squats

Not at all getting the dislike I'm sensing here for Zerchers.... Sure the OP might need to work on his form for the "traditional" squats and maybe most people could lift more on the front squats as...

Re: 14.3 funny thinking about it

I agree Steven. Very well-said. People did a lot of growing during both 14.1 and 14.2, getting their first or PRing and then doing that for reps. Or walked away making resolutions to be working on...

Re: 14.3 funny thinking about it

I think this year's workouts have been great actually. Even though I'm doing a lot worse this year than I did last year, but (a) I have a poor double-under and (b) I hit a wall in the 2nd 3...

Re: Pretty glad I didn't sign up for the Open

If 14.2 is AMRAP air-squats then I also will be rethinking the $20 I spent. :p

Seriously, I don't really have DUs either and I think 14.1 was a good workout. DUs are a staple CrossFit movement...

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

That makes sense, the lack of kettle bell swings.

But what about HSPUs though? And Fran isn't the only classic CrossFit workout...just seems way over-represented.

Strength-based programs tend to do...

Re: 2014 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Yeah. I've noticed that in the Open, its really about efficiency in going through light-load to moderate-load movements. You will get to show how strong you are, but only in a couple of the workouts,...

Re: Why do people hate Crossfit?

I don't know if they hate CrossFiT per se. We as a group do have a tendency to sometimes think that we are cooler than we really are (myself included).

Re: New to CrossFit

Hey Krista,

Good for you for making a change! I checked out your blog. My big thought is to go easy on yourself. Finishing 70% of your way through a workout really means that you got at least 70%...

Re: How I went from 1 to 20 dips and 8 to 20 pullups in only five weeks

Nice!

What about taking a similar tack in the opposite direction--instead of decreasing resistance so that you can bang out 20 reps and then adding it back week-by-week, INCREASE resistance--i.e.,...

Re: Movements which you don't see in crossfit but would like to

Plate pushups. Do pushups with each hand supported by a 5 or 10-pound rigid metal plate held upright by your hand on its narrow edge. Your core has to really be firing to stay balanced and keep the...

Re: Mixing yoga with CrossFit?

We have a yoga class every Sunday evening at our box in Annapolis. It complements CF perfectly. I got out all sorts of knots in my hamstrings that I never even knew I had, and this aided my recovery...
