Bench Press + 5K run
Should be a fun race tomorrow morning. Bench Press goes from 730-830am, race at 9am. For the bench press, you basically do max reps at your bodyweight....150-159 do 155, 200-209 do 205, and so on. If you are over 40 years old, the weight goes down. For each rep you get 0:20 off your 5k time. Adds a little excitement to the typical 5K. Last year some old, jacked up dude that was like 60 or so did ~ 50 reps and ended up with a 5K of ~ 5 minutes, haha! Hopefully he doesn't come this year and I have a chance :)

Hi Greg,

Where is this race taking place? I might be able to watch if it's close.

Watch? Or pound everyone into the ground?

Re: Bench Press + 5K run

You're a funny man! This involves running, something I'm known for doing poorly. Fortunately I'm attending a running cert in MA at the end of the month so I will have the tools to fix my problem.....just wait til this time next year. I will be able to do 6 minute miles! :D

I wish I would have known about this before today. Sounds like a fun event.

Re: Bench Press + 5K run

Did you compete? I was out picking up some meds (cursed flu/cold whatever this is) and stopped by to watch the end of the 5k. I was standing by the 5k finish line wearing a black CrossFit T-shirt hoping we would have a chance to talk.

The first man crossed the finish line in under 16 minutes and the first woman was under 20 minutes. I watched a very young man (about 8 yoa) sprint to the finish line against possibly his grandfather; I believe the time was around 22 minutes. Very cool - it was faster than I've ever run a 5k. It also warmed my heart to see several older women crossing the finish line in under 28 minutes. Very impressive!

Re: Bench Press + 5K run
Glad you got to stop by. I did compete, also did the bench press portion. I'm not a huge bench press guy, but did 14 reps at 145lbs, weighing in at 148.5. I finished the 5k in 4th place, I was in red shorts and an all black under armor type shirt. My friend ended up winning 29 and under bench + run with his 5k time of 20:30 and 21 reps at 155lbs. My time for the 5k was 19:02ish. I'm sure you heard a slight grunt/roar at the finish....that was me. I was in 5th most of the race, tried to kick and beat the 2 in front of me, but only got past 1 guy.

Overall it was a lot of fun, T-shirt is nice and not made of crappy cotton. Hope you had fun!

Re: Bench Press + 5K run
Yes, I remember you crossing the line. Nice performance.

Stop by and say hi if you see a CrossFit tshirt in the crowd! I was hoping you would be wearing one so I could recognize you.

Sorry I missed you, was actually thinking about wearing a crossfit t-shirt, guess I forgot :) I am really loving this weather though, finally it isn't raining/snowing every other day!!!
