This probably sounds a bit goofy but I have short thumbs. Besides making me a lousy hitchhiker, it makes it tough on my hook grip. I can only get my forefinger over the thumb and it really doesn't feel very secure. I guess I don't really have any problem using straps but I'd prefer not to if possible. Should I get a 15kg bar? Will my thumbs adapt if I just keep after it? Is this just a stupid post? I feel like it.

not a stupid question, i too am a recent member,and have a similar problem securing a good hook grip.
My grip is very poor especially during deadlifts.But for deadlifts i found that using a reverse grip increased my lifting capacity by 20kg(44lbs)immediately!!

It takes practice. I knew a guy 4'3" who used a hook grip, so can you.
