Does anyone have any ideas where to buy (cheap, I have only found really expensive ones) or how to build a squat rack? My husband and I can't really do the low rep squat workouts without one.

Post a "wanted" ad on Craigslist; keep an eye out for other posts. Also, check the used equipment stores. I think might have a book on building gym equipment. I've read about people using bar stools, furniture, appliances, etc.

I found this link on the web. It has plans on how to make a cage out of pipe.

Hope it works for you.

Try or something close to that. Google new york barbells and they will come up. They have a TDS brand squat stand for $129. I have a pair and they work great.

We have some racks at the gym I go to that believe it or not were part of some $99 bench/leg extension combo. I've seen them hold 200 kilos.

Tony Young has some photos of home-made equipment somewhere on his site:

You may have to swim around a bit to find it or just contact him directly. Don't hesitate as he's exceedingly helpful

Google pulled up this recent thread on T-Nation about choosing a power rack:

I saw something from Dan John about using horses-I haven't tried it and I guess you have to start from the bottom of the squat, but it is a very cheap alternative to a squat rack

You can use saw horses for spotting racks (they're below paralell for me) and use 4x4's sunk into concrete with 2 pieces of 1 in cold rolled steel for the barbell to sit on-
