Supraprinatus Tear

Hi, it's been 6 months since an MRI showed a 1.5 x 1.6mm tear in my Supraprinatus. Surgeon said arthroscopic repair but unfortunately my insurance won't cover it and I've to wait on the public system here or pay $25k. The public system wait may be 12-24 months.
My question is what can I do to strengthen my shoulder? I have full ROM and about 50% strength. My concern is making the tear worse.
I work in construction so need to keep it as strong as I can.
Has anyone else had a tear and just had to get on with it?

I tore mine completely in half a year ago in February. However, I did have surgery to repair it along with my labrum, bicep tendon and rotator cuff. So, I know that's not what you're asking, however, one thing that has helped me to regain strength was doing seated dumbell overhead presses. It really improved my ROM and I gained lots of strength from them. For what it's worth.

I with I had more encouraging response. I went to physical therapy while waiting to decide whether to get surgery on my torn supraspinatus but continued to do most of my normal activities (mountain biking, dirt bikes, etc.). My tear got worse between the time of the diagnostic MRI and the surgery to repair it.

Re: Supraprinatus Tear

I just had my rotator cuff repaired on 7 October. It was three months between diagnosis and surgery. I stayed with all normal activity but did limited overhead movements.
I modified push ups, and did a ton of rowing exercises. My ROM was still good and I didn't have pain for the most part.
You can still remain active but have to be cautious.....Resistance bands became a staple as well; good resistance but no weight bearing.

Good luck!
