sweet potatoes versus fruit

I'm pretty strictly paleo. Meat, fruit, veggies, duck fat and coconut oil are pretty much it. But lately I've heard people eating no fruit and replacing them with sweet potatoes as a healthier source of carbs, especially when trying to lean out.

thoughts?

Zero fruit is silly unless you are doing keto. Basically people read about GI and went crazy.

well from a evolutionary bio angle, it seems to make sense to not eat fruit in that fruit was only around for a few months out of the year right?

and someone else mentioned that glucose is a much better source of energy than fructose.

Fruit is available all year in warm climates

I can show you plenty of studies showing that inclusion of fruits does good things. Please show me studies showing that the complete exclusion provides a benefit. Unless of course you prefer using pseudo-evolutionary speculation to decide what to eat.

Fruit is great for the vitamins and minerals, but the fructose they contain is bad. So by consuming to much fructose it will turn to fat just like most sugars. If you call that a good thing carry on.:)

What??? It's one thing to eat "healthy" but the paleo people go to far with the whole evolution thing.

Nobody ever got fat solely from eating too much fruit. Dried processed fruit, maybe. Fruit rollups , maybe. Not real fruit.

Eat fruit to your hearts content. If you are in a caloric deficit, you lose fat. If you are in surplus, you gain fat. Simple as that.

You are confusing fructose from fruits with High Fructose Corn Syrup contained in the majority of todays sweets. You would have to eat tons of fruit for it to become a fattening habit.

I'm certainly not a dietician but I'm pretty good at math. And if an apple contains about 100 cal, then you'd have to eat a butt load of apples to even meet your caloric requirements for a day of doing nothing. Not to mention how amazingly full you feel after one apple!
