Just finished my first month, goal is to be fitter all around (all other benefits will follow). I've seen great improvement, even on a uber-newb level.

I do have a question though - I wrote up kind of a statement of encouragement for folks fence-sitting on CF from the POV of someone who isn't already athletic or somewhat fit. It's about a page long.

Can I post something like that, and where would it be least clutter-some?

Thanks!

Edit to add: Testimonials thread, duh. :)

After debating and procrastinating (and being intimidated by all these elite folks) I joined, completed my Elements sessions and just had my 2nd ever full Crossfit workout.

I have to say - I'm a person who will stick with a half-marathon training or whatever, then when its over just stop. Or get bored. Or off track. (like everyone, I can always come up with excuses for not working out!) I love the community aspect of this, and the variety, and the fact that I already know the women in my group will not ignore it if I don't show up.

I'm glad to be starting this now - as for the food stuff, I eat pretty well, but I do have a very social life with wine and beer. I'm going to try to ease off that for the holidays a bit, but will hold off on trying this Paleo diet thing and 30 days dry until January 1.

Anyway, thanks for welcoming a person who is trying to just get in shape and be healthier. Speaking for those of us not in the best shape - keep in mind that we appreciate when you Crossfit elite talk to us and support us. Some of you are intimiating!!!

Glad to be here,

I recently found out in an article that 220-your body age=peak heart rate. Following this example, my peak heart rate should be 200.
However, when I checked my heart rate after a sprint interval the other day, it was at 210. Rapidly went down afterwards, but I'm pretty sure it was correct, because I've gone up above 200 many times before.
Is this an unhealthy heart rate to push myself to?

I have been lurking for a while, but finally decided to make an account so I could get forms checks. Though I hope to gain enough knowledge to contribute.

I am 16 and have been doing starting strength for a few weeks, I just got the book (I read Squat, DL, and the Programing Chapters). My goals are to gain some weight and add as much weight to my lifts as possible from SS before doing the WODs.

I have an acquaintance who is about 55 yo, ~225#, 5'10", and very much out of shape. His diet is a typical Western one, with perhaps some tendency toward whole foods though there is still some packaged/processed stuff in there. He has "bad knees" but I believe that this is mainly due to lack of exercise, excess body weight, and poor nutrition. When he does workout, he spends about 30-60 min walking at no more than 2-3 mph on the treadmill, a few times a week. While he is resistant to change, I am trying to help him improve his health. He claims not not have enough time for exercise, but I've assured him that if he can't find to be healthy now, the time to be sick will find him later.

Anyway, one of my main challenges is that he is a professional musician who relies on his hands to make a living. An injured finger, tweaked wrist, or even callus development could be problematic at best and a career ender at worst. I can say with 99.9% certainty that I will never get his hands on a bar, and I'm looking for the best possible compromise to get him a decent workout without having it be all LSD cardio (emphasis on the S...). Any suggestions?

Hello to all. Love the forum and all the readily available information.

I've been crossfitting for roughly 4mos, though for the last month I've been going less often due to being out of town or sometimes just hungover...

Before this set-back month, I was going 3x/wk. I've only been going 1-2x/week lately.

My background is bodybuilding and I've ALWAYS been at a globo. Been loving crossfit so far, though.

My question is, for 'normal' gym workouts, I would (almost) never workout when I was sore. I'd train another bodypart or skip a day or whatever. This is a little harder to get around with crossfit. So, if I want to start going 4x/wk, do I just suck it up and workout when sore or wait for my body to adjust more?

My body has adjusted since starting and I'm able to do it more often now. I'll sometimes do workouts 2 days in a row, but I try not to (I was doing m/w/f). If I do 2 days in a row, my 2nd day's WOD is not as good, but I still get it done.

Basically, should I not worry about having a sub-par workout on the second day in a row or give my body more reecovery time until it's more used to everything?

Sorry for the long post...and thanks.

My lifting is going well. Is this normal ? I am trying to GOMAD as well but only get about 3/4 of it a day. Anyone else had this happen ? I want to make some strength gains but I don't want to be this uncomfortable for another 6 weeks. Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.

New to forums/ posting but not new to having to find different ways to stay motivated towards fitness. Variety, challenge, and body balance are all important to me. As a professional firefighter I am convinced that overall body health, body weight exercice, joint stability, cardio strength is all equally important.
I have always been motivated by challenge, marathons, tri's, off road racing, etc. And Crossfit seems to be very challenging but shows rapid results! I recently contacted my local CF affiliate, was psyched to think about joining, but some wierd vibes, and hesitancy about coaching Olympic lifts at their gym. So realizing their a new gym, I have returned to my own self teachings and WOD's and will stay in tune that way.
Im the father of two young kids, 4 Y.O. AND 9 MOS. and as many of you know, it is a full day chasing kids around! Whew....

My girlfriend introduced me to Crossfit about 6 months ago... She's a firefighter/paramedic, and crossfit is pretty big with those guys and girls (probably a bunch of you here, ha ha!). I took to it right away, as I was always fighting boredom in the gym doing those stupid isolation exercises that everybody tends to do. The WOD is such a great way to keep things interesting, and the mental and physical challenge of Crossfit always keeps me coming back for more.

I've been scaling some of the WODs over the past few months, but lately I've really been trying to kick things up to a new level. Lots of shear exhaustion at the gym lately, and it's been great! :evilsmile...

Although I've been coming to crossfit.com for awhile now, I just discovered the forum. Already I've learned a lot by searching around in here, and am looking forward to learning some more!

Well, I heard of CF from my marine buddy and have been searching crossfit.com and other sites to find out more about it. I am 6',2" and 210 lbs. and I think I am pretty athletic and love to train hardcore, many people my current gym think I am insane for my 10 X 10 sets of 315 for squat or for dead lifting 405 for a set of 20 and then going for a max out. I recently injured my back deadlifting during one of my heavy sets. Ever since I have been looking for some kind of training that focuses not only on building lean muscle mass, like a bodybuilding routine, but also cardiovascular fitness as well as workin the heck out of my core. In looking more and more at CF, I think I have found what I was looking for and will probably be posting a lot of questions. I guess my goal is to get back to where I was before with the heavy lifts, to improve my mile time from 7:30 to sub 6:00 min. and maybe even a 6 pack.

Well after getting back to the states and not having an adequate gym to do the workouts in I have recently been on a 1 year Xfit hiatus, in which time I have lifting big three was over 1000 until I started my Ironman training about 6 months ago.

Well now that I am done with Ironman Wisconsin I have gotten back into Xfit and joined crossfit virginia beach. I have done 2/3 training sessions and the third being tomorrow, and I can finally start doing the WODs again and back to "gettin' it" From what I got so far all my lifts are safe but definitely found how to perfect my form with the help of the awesome staff they have their.

My entire goal with this is to stack Xfit workouts with 1hour swimming, 1 hour cycling, and a marathon workup 4 times a week. Hopefully staying injury free and putting in for BUD/SEAL training once my PRK Laser Eye surgery is completed through the navy.

Overall it's good to be back and doing Xfit again and I have had the most enjoyment out of Xfit and the tri' communities and regular weightlifting just doesn't cut it any longer. Well hope you all have a good 1 and take care.
