I didn't see a thread started on this topic yet. I am pretty excited about this one. Tito Ortiz was always one of my favorite fighters. I espeicially liked all the early drama between him and the Lion's Den fighter's just because I was never a big fan of Ken Shamrock and Guy Metzger. Those guys seemed like jerks. And where are the Lion's Den fighters now?

...or I'll kick your a**. However, I just wanted to post a little testimonial.

This is me in October with no formal MMA training in over 8 years and zero conditioning:
Link deleted. You must indicate whether your links are Work and Family Safe (WFS)
That was me quitting at the beginning of the 2nd round just before I layed down in the center of the ring for like 5 minutes.

This is me in November with no formal MMA training in over 8 years but after doing crossfit mainpage workouts for about 4 weeks:
Link deleted. You must indicate whether your links are Work and Family Safe (WFS)
Notice the armbar I put on him at approx 7:50 youtube time. He tapped and we stood back up for the remainder of the 3 minute round.

A little background info:
I got the itch to get back into some MMA training after an O'lifting competition last month. I used to be really into MMA about 8 years ago. I am too cheap to go join an MMA gym plus don't have that much time. So I found this one gym that hosts open sparring sessions every 4-5 weeks. They call them "smokers" because they are slightly more formal then regular training because they put out an open invite then conduct weigh-ins a half hour before and match up based on skill. Anyways, me being the crazy guy I am decided to just walk on and do it.

Anybody else fans of Ong Bak or The Protector?

I know its flashy hollywood stuff but I like that he does all his own real stunts and stays away from goofy special fx crap that has been popular.

Muay Thai, Muay Boran, but it also looks like he has Parkour, Gymnast/Acrobat, and Capoeira skills.

How do Fighters Decide Their Fighting Weights?

My question is this - how does one sensibly decide which weight division to fight in? You often see tall, skinny guys in the UFC fighting short, muscle bound guys who look much stronger. Why is there such an obvious difference in body shape in the same division?

For what reason did the skinny guy decide not to bulk up and fight in the division above, using the strength he earned building muscle?

For what reason did the short guy not move down a division and be one of the strongest at a smaller weight?

My friends and I often talk about moving up or down weight classes in BJJ but don't know the logic behind it.

Any help?
