I have only been using dumbbells in my workouts for the past year so this is my first attempt with barbell snatches in my workouts. I would like to start incorporating more barbell o-lift exercises into my workouts. Is there a link where all the specifics on the o lift exercises (foot position, grip width, etc, bar path, etc) so I can get technical movements down? I would also be interested in info on the clean and jerk, cleans, deadlifts, and squats. Here are my first 3 attempts at a barbell snatch. They are pretty bad, just warning you.
Attempt 1 – 115lbs
Attempt 2 – 135lbs
Attempt 3 – 135lbs

The first thing you need to do is forget everything you thought you knew about the snatch.
There are some excellent coaches in Queens at the Lost Battalion Hall (http://www.lostbattalionhallweightlifting.org/location.htm), about 30 miles from you. I would strongly advise making the trip to get some coaching, even if it takes you a couple of hours to get there.

Sorry Brian, yes. You fulfilled the definition of a snatch, but violate most every known point of technique. Rounded back at the start, hips rising too early, bar too far away, no re-bend of the knees, early arm bend...
The guys at LBH can fix you up in person much much quicker than we can over the internet.
That said, welcome aboard and keep us posted on your progress.
