Hey Jacob,

Before you get burned with a bunch of "Check the FAQs" and "do a search!!" rants, let me say welcome to the forums.

If you look on the left side of the main page you will see FAQ, click on that and scroll through and that should answer 90% of your questions. It has explanations of pretty much everything in there.

Good Luck and enjoy.

...and accept the fact that no matter how many acronyms and abbreviations and names you learn, there will always be "another new one"! It's all part of the game called CrossFit.

No offence intended towards yourself but I will take this as a chance to suggest something to the moderators. Would the creation of a sticky (sp??) be such a bad idea which answers all these questions such as what is an eva? and information regarding starting strength and the zone diet.

Just my thoughts, I am not trying to say that I am sick of people asking these questions, quite the opposite I am happy that people are continually drawn here.

We do have links, in bright yellow, directly at the top of every single page in the forum, to the CrossFit FAQ and the Site Rules.

My experience has been that you can write it down for them. You can point them to it, and sometimes, you can even read it to them.

You can't understand it for them, however.

Jacob P.,

Many of the names you'll hear are in reference to workouts that are named after
some very special people. Some of these people are elite CF athletes while others may be heroes that have served in the armed forces and made the great sacrifice for our freedom.

You mentioned 'row' as a term you didn't understand. Think about a college crew team. Rows are performed on machine that simulates rowing in a boat, killer total body and cardio workout. SDHP(sumo-deadlift high pulls) is variation of a deadlift. When you see exercise terms that you don't understand, check out the main CF page(crossfit.com) and browse the Exercise and Demos section.
RIP original CFHQ:(

Welcome to the CF way of life, and good luck in your training
